A coworker won a PSP off a Dr. Pepper cap and I almost convinced him of using GBPVR to record shows and transcode to PSP format. He didn't like having to place a PC next to the digital cable box to control it with the IR Blaster. If the IR Blaster had an internal transceiver that forwarded the signal wirelessly over RF to a remote 'beanbag' to the STB he would have gone with that and an MVP. Like a remote extender that X10 and Terk sell, but integrated. If they had something like that more people would go for a GBPVR or MediaCenter setup.

There are plenty of wireless extenders around that transmit video one way and remote control signals the other way. I guess there are too many different interfaces to allow a tuner card to be able to do them all though.
Me, I use coax for RF one way and IR back to the STB.

How much did you pay for that?

For the RF solution I use it cost UKP 9 but I think this is a UK only device. The wireless video + IR that I've seen is this one priced at UKP 36 :-

"Watch SKY Digital, ON-Digital or Cable TV around the home without wiring!
An RF transmitter and receiver system that allows video and hi-fi stereo signals to be transmitted to a remote location without the need for connecting wires. The system also includes an infrared link that allows a user at the remote location to control the equipment at the transmitter side with the existing remote control.
Ideal for commercial and domestic situations, where satellite TV, cable, DVD can be easily extended to a bedroom, kitchen or spare room."

I'm sure there are plenty of similar items on the US market.

There are and X10 and Terk sell them (I mentioned them in my first post) but it is a hassle and causes more clutter to have those. Most people do not want that hassle. They would rather get a Tivo. If it were all integrated it would be less hassle and fewer cables.

I have another idea, how about the MVP having the IR emmiter to control the STB while the MVP also controls the host server as always.

My MVP's are not in the same room as the STB though. My current setup just has a single coax running from the STB to the office and this carries the single RF channel out from the STB and remote control command back to the STB,

Your setup is still different than what most people would like. It is too confusing for them. GBPVR is confusing enough for them. Especially if they have to buy separate components.

99.99% of the population would buy a box to do the job. It's probably cheaper, simpler and more use to the average person. Only a tiny proportion would spend the time and money getting their own PVR up and running - in which case the more complicated the better

I have to disagree on the more complicated the better. The more complicated things get the less time we have for other things. There needs to be time for family, friends, exercise, other hobbies, etc.
