The above sounds a bit odd but I was having stability problems with the dongle from 98.08, mainly when stopping video playback, screen would just go black and stay black - no response.
Windowed TV doesn't quite work right as you would expect using an old dongle but not too bothered about that. The good news is that this setup has just fixed two long standing problems that I've been experiencing! These are...
1. Audio glitches when playing wma files though my MVP.
2. Play back of video that I'm currently recording exiting when I accidentally advanced too far forwards. (Can't use LiveTV you see due to my setup - please see signature)
