I must be missing something . . . awful quality . . .

Got home late last night from work. Had time to start making changes as per all the advice given. The first thing I did was hook up my MVP with a better video line. I used the S-video cable as suggested. Still using the Hauppauge supplied software, but wow . . . what a difference even with that software. The images were clear before, but so much sharper and clear with the s-video cable.

This morning before I headed out to work I quickly fired up the GBPVR server. The text is sharper and somewhat easier to read, but not from a distance. (Will try other skins with bigger text). Just a note on the generic GBPVR OSD . . . you know the black box that displays when the next recording is happening? . . . well, that is not a solid black, it has thick bands of greenish black and dull dull black . . . The video is still much less in quality than the Hauppauge server (grainy). So tonight I will try playing with the dongle files . . . .

Assuming you're playing the same file, I cant think why video would appear any different. All the video decoding is done on the MVP itself, using the same hardware decoder and same Hauppauge MVP-side software. All the GB-PVR server does is pass the MVP the raw chunks of the file that the MVP asks for. (ie, it says give me 200000 bytes starting at location X in the file)

Hi Sub . . . yes I am playing the same file . . . I didn't realize that the GB-PVR server used the same Hauppauge MVP-side software. Now I am scratching my head . . . need to look at this from a different angle then. Just for your information, I simply stopped the Hauppauge Server and then launched the GB-PVR server . . . guessing that is all I need to do to switch servers to the MVP.

Hi Htv . . . I am playing back TV recordings made by GBPVR. The recordings are set to High Quality. I have been comparing the same recorded show on both the Hauppauge and GB-PVR servers.

Thanks . . . just trying this one now . . . need to figure out how I can change the text display size in the recordings' menu etc . . . or switch them to icons . . .

This morning I tried using the GB-PVR server again . . . crashed after about 5 minutes into a video. Maybe too many fast forward keys perhaps. Still experimenting . . .

I just change all the settings in the config.xml to what the High Quality is rated as in bitrate.

Thanks tipstir . . . not sure how to do that. Took a look at the config.xml. Want to be careful I don't mess it up. But if I knew what to change . . . I would . . .

I record all my shows at High Quality. Would a change in the config.xml still make a difference?

Always make a backup copy of the config.xml, you can do this by creating a new folder called backup.

Using the notepad or right click on the config.xml click on open with notepad.
click on edit, then on find type: bitrate

<HighBitRate>10000</HighBitRate>
<VBHighBitRate>6000</VBHighBitRate>

Change the Low and Medium to the same

I just do this if GBPVR or me forget to select High... That's all I ever use is high! I want the best posible picture

Thanks tipstir . . . however, no such lines show in my config.xml . . . the closest thing I have with the word "bitrate" is the following:

*<GO7007SBMP3BitrateKbps>256</GO7007SBMP3BitrateKbps>*
This occurs in the last line of the .xml file (Line # 198). The location of the config.xml file found in C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr
