Is it possible to configure an aspect ratio that would zoom into a 2.35 movie and make it 1.8 removing the black bars in the top and bottom and cropping both ends?

I tried different negative values to strech the picture vertically but it did not work.

Yes, this is possible, but its important to note that any aspect ratios with negative values are ignored if you're using the Overlay renderer (since these wont work). VMR will use them though.

I suspect you may be right there sub as these specs are similar to mine and I have to run overlay as VMR kills the system and causes sync problems.

Thanks, I am using overlay for performance reasons, and now I understand why my attempts were unsuccessful. I do not think this can be done without negative values.
