Here in Atlanta, Georgia, there is a website that we can go to that has the current traffic conditions for the city, or the state. It displays a map JPG (might be a gif) that is updated regularly.

It would be AWESOME if there was a way to have a plugin where you could pre-set a URL and it would go to that URL and pull the image and display it. Would be a nice complement to the Weather report.

Trying to screen-scrape map images from different html pages where the images are in different locations etc. would be problematic. However if you can fine a web page (xml preferably) where you can select a city and get its traffic image it would be pretty easy to make this plugin.

Maybe just a "get picture from the web and show it" plugin? that could also be used for webcams, weather images from your area and so on?

the image should appear in the same place of the html code, so just read in the html file until that bit of code and then read the url of the image, and download it. ive done the same thing for a tv ripper i made for nz and also am doing with a movie list for auckland which will grab the a image of the movie.

the traffic thing should be fairly easy to do, if no one picks it up ill look into after my movie plugin

I've just updated the PicturesPlugin so that you can effectively add live webcams to your photo collection.

The setup actually allows you to setup a whole set of webcams you might wish to browse.

I'll be posting more on a new thread in case people are looking for a webcam plugin rather than a traffic one :-).
