Just so I'm clear what you mean by tuning assistant is that the channel changing interface when you launch the GBPVR application and change channels up and down or is it the channel list in the "Edit Recording Source" dialogue box in the config application.

No. There is a separate utility called the Tuning Assistant installed with GB-PVR.

I have been trying to configure thru the config application or thru the PVR app itself.

I'm going thru the tuning assistant now.

The tuning assistant doesnt do anything itself, but it will give you an idea of where your available channels are. Most US people dont ever need to use it, but you set up may be different depending on your cable network.
