Well, I'm now experiencing the joys of DVB and ATSC for the first time, thanks to the new QAM support of the HVR-1600. I'm loving the quality.

I'd read a little about the mux issues, and I'd decided to go with .dvr-ms for recording then convert to .mpg when it is done. I set everything up that way, and on the very first conversion, ended up with a GBPVRConvert.exe sucking all the CPU and doing nothing: a condition that had been reported before.

I'd installed the Cyberlink Mux (1307) and that was all.

I read somewhere that the ATI might work better, so I removed the Cyberlink Mux and added the ATI one. However, that just makes the automatic process fail. It seems to only try the Cyberlink mux.

I was able to do it by hand (by passing a 4th parameter to GBPVRConvert.exe with the mux name), but I don't know if I can cause the automatic process to use my mux of choice.

The auto conversion from dvr-ms to mpg requires the Cyberlink mux.

Its worth noting these muxes dont do a good job with high def video. Usually it'll just lockup somewhere mid file when you try, sucking up CPU doing nothing like you describe. Because of this, most ATSC users have just learned to live with leaving the file as a .dvr-ms file.

I have got some ideas for somethings we could try to improve this, but its more development, so will need to wait a bit til I've got a bit more time.

The thing that was odd was that the same conversion that was scheduled automatically and hung, ran just fine when done by hand, with both muxes: ATI and Cyberlink. Is that a clue?

I can live with .dvr-ms, especially because I have VideoRedo, which can do the conversion for me now. But it would be nice if the conversion would work.

I just upgraded to 1.0.8 this weekend and was using WinTV for QAM recordings, and liking the fact that WinTV produces MPG files instead of DVR-MS. So I'm stuck with DVR-MS if I use the QAM support in GB-PVR?

The Hauppauge mux cant be used in external apps, but you can try the Cyberlink or ATI muxes to record .mpg files. Install the patch from http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...stcount=30 first though, which improves ATSC compatibility with these muxes.

Thanks, I'll try that NativeUtilities patch and the Cyberlink mux.
