Are either of these enough to play HR/HD files?

When I eventually get a HD TV, I will probably start getting and encoding HR files. Right now when I play something HR encoded from HD, my system is too slow to handle it.

I have Sempron 3100 (1.8Ghz, 1GB RAM) system and a nVidia 6200 card. Are either these up to the task, or will I need to replace both of them?

Most people seem to say a nvidia 6600 or higher is recommended for HD playback. (though now that I've said this, some pedant is likely to offer a rebuttle)

i have pci-e6200 it struggles with normal SD (plus it depends on which 6200 you have some dont have all the flash bits)
my agp6600 is way better running same drivers
your pc should be fine though with the right video card like sub said 6600
but the 8500 etc are cheap now anyway
plus there are new ati cards aswell

Yes...the high resolution (HR) stuff that is usually encoded into xvid files that are around 960x528, 1500-2000kpbs w/ the 5.1 sound, making them 2x the size of a normal 30-60min show. When I play those (or 720/1080 quicktime preview downloads), there is a lot of video catch-up.

If I know that a better vid card will do the job, I won't have to swap out the whole system when the time comes (it was a $200 emachine...not much of a savings to just to board/processor).
