Sincerely not trying to sound argumentative here,

There is no 'Hauppauge HVR-1600 (Analog)' on the drop-down-list -- that's what drove me to check with Hauppauge originally (six months ago) and the system, until yesterday, was behaving sweetly.

Maybe extraneous data, but I have also conducted these tests with the 350 in the top position on the 'Capture Sources' screen... with same results

From what you write... it sounds like you can see the 1600 on your DDL, is that so?

Now that I said what i said Smile , what do think at this juncture?

Thx,

I have the following entry in direct.ini. Do you?

Quote:[Hauppauge HVR-1600 (Analog)]
INIT_MODE=ECP
INIT_MSP=0
SUPPORTS_FM_RADIO=0
BLACKBIRD=1
CONEXANT=1
FILTER_CROSSBAR=Hauppauge WinTV 418 Crossbar
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture
FILTER_TV_TUNER=Hauppauge WinTV 418 Tuner
FILTER_TV_AUDIO=Hauppauge WinTV 418 TvAudio
FILTER_ENCODER=Hauppauge WinTV 418 Encoder
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio In
PIN_CAPTURE_I2S_OUT=I2S
PIN_CAPTURE_656_OUT=656
PIN_ENCODER_I2S_IN=I2S
PIN_ENCODER_656_IN=656
PIN_ENCODER_OUT=MPEG
PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input

Your problem is occuring because both of your capture sources are trying to control the same physical card. (the PVR350)

The HVR-1600 is of no use outside of the US/Canada, so I dont have one myself, but given it has different filter names than a PVR150, it should definitely not be selected as a PVR150 when setting up the capture source. The PVR150 and PVR350 use the same filternames, which is why it shows up as both.

NO.. nothing at all like it even

What risk do I have if I just add that snip from your .ini into my direct.ini file?

I am sure you are correct... just perplexed that the current set up has been working for a very long time. Ooops, assumption bell rings... is it possible that upgrade to 1.0.16 might have altered/replaced that direct.ini? Or some other program went after it and chewed it up (maybe set it back to a backup version? Just wondering if there's an explanation I'm missing.

Most sincerely,

Add it in.

It would never have been working as a PVR150.

It should always overwrite the direct.ini file from the master one when you upgrade.

I suppose its possible that something funny about your setup or permissions may have stopped this file being replaced.

Reading between the lines... it suggests that either the 1600 was not installed properly initially... what is it that would have placed that section of that HVR-1600 section into the direct.ini -or- is it in there by default since newer versions of GB-PVR?
-or- some system glitch set me backwards -- might a BlueScreenofDeath crash have retrograded the system to a much older set point an effected files in GB-PVR?

While writing I was making the change to the .ini and starting a test... whammo, shzammo... all is well again in PVR land!

Seems to have proved that something retrograded that file, you think?

Anyway, thanks for helping me out of this. Not wanting to sound ungrateful, but thanks for all you do for all of us.

Sincerely,
Tom "there's always beer for you in Salem" H

The HVR1600 section has been in there for a few releases. I'm guessing you had an older version of the direct.ini file that couldnt be overwritten for some reason so the old version was left there.

Anyway, glad to hear you got it sorted.

Sorry, one last thing about direct.ini... does the file get modified after it is installed?

I'm thinking may be there might other things 'missing' from my version (since you mentioned that the HVR-1600 has been there for several releases)

If it stays static, except for changes at releases, then maybe I need to make sure that I have all of the additions -- by getting a copy of 1.0.16 direct.iniand plopping that in place of what I have.

Thoughts?

Again, thanks ever so much for your patient help,
TomH

Usually not. For most people this file is only every updated when they install a new release. The only exceptions are if you modify it yourself to add a device, or if you've changed the default recording bit rates.

For a good couple of years the only things that have changed in this file has been the additions of extra cards.

I doubt you were missing anything important except the definition HVR1600 device. (maybe some other devices you dont have, so no great loss)
