Playback of Xvid/Divx Crashes on Client (Streaming)

Ok,
Help me please.
I have a system, set up with GBpvr 10016. I can playback recordings (Xvid/Divx and Mpeg) from client PCs when they are setup as file sharing. If I switch it to streaming (The client) that is), I can no longer playback Xvid/Divx files. When I start the playback it looks like it is doing something then crashes. I see on the server side that the client starts to connect to the port. (Used Active ports to verify).

But also, when the client PC is in streaming mode I can playback Mpeg and LiveTV.

The only error I can find in the log is this

I can play all files from the server using GBPvr and external apps. And I can also play the files using external apps from the client PC.

You'd only be able to playback MPEG recordings in streaming mode.

If you want to play any recordings you've converted to AVI files, you'll have to just just use the video library to a shared directory.

Sorry, but this limitation is unlikely to change in the future.

No worries. So you are saying you can not stream back (Divx/Xvid) in the recordings section. I was just wanting to know if it was something I was doing wrong. It is good to know. Now I know not to beat myself up over it. I will just set my clients to file sharing.

So with that I would want to set my clients to share mode. When I play LiveTV from the client it plays back slow and skips. Is it possible to play live TV in this mode?? (I can playback recorded Mpeg just fine.)

I am running over 10/100 network....



Side Note: (Eat my cake and ice cream toooo)
Could the developers put in the code to read the ext. that was being played back and let the server decide on what to do. If it is an AVIi play it as a share. If it was an mpeg play it as a stream....

Sorry, this is one of those situation where probably cant get everything you want.

My main focus is MPEG2, since this is what the supported devices record. With streaming mode you should be able to watch live tv, and watch recordings that are left as MPEG2. As soon as you transcode to .avi files, all bets are off. You can watch AVI files via the video library off a file share, even when you're in streaming mode though, so you at least have this option.

Personally, if you're intending to have client machines, I'd just leave recordings as MPEG2.

Just put the .avi Files to another folder on the server!

I am using the STREAMINGMODE (for Live TV) and have added the Media Folders from the Server as NETWORKDRIVES.
No problem to playback MPEG-2 and DivX, OGM or whatever on a client.

You can watch AVI files via the video library off a file share, even when you're in streaming mode though, so you at least have this option.

Like sub said. You could use a Batchfile which automatically moves your .avi transcodings to another Folder (Video Library).

Thanks for the info. I think I got what I want. I was looking at some of the plugins and the VideoArchive plugin is giving me the look and feel I want.
