For future reference, pixels arent square with MPEG. 720x480 and 720x576 would typically be display as either 4:3 or 16:9 depending on special flags in the MPEG file.

The PVRX2 & GBPVR output is attached. I don't know whether it makes any difference, but while the "Resume" dialog is display, GBPVR displays a blank background, while PVRX2 displays the beginning of the recording.

I learn something new every day. Smile

Probably doesn't add anything more but these are my screenshots, one with aspect set to Auto and the other with it set to Letterbox which displays correctly (both in PVRX2).

Thanks

Doh, I haven't been keeping an eye on my own thread. After a few days no one else had the same problem so I thought it was a little quirk with my set-up.

As scim said this only effects recordings, with live TV and AVI's all automatically find the correct aspect ratio, that's why I thought it was weird. I also see this same problem in GBpvr.exe if I leave the decoder on system default as sub said, but once I specify the decoder GBpvr.exe finds the auto aspect ratio but PVRX2 does not. In my, thoroughly uneducated, scan of the logs it seems to me that when I first play a 16x9 recording PVRX2 tries to set the auto aspect ratio twice:

2007-11-18 13:12:31.203 VERBOSE setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2007-11-18 13:12:31.203 VERBOSE video resolution is 1024 x 576
2007-11-18 13:12:31.203 VERBOSE unknown source aspect ratio...showing full frame
2007-11-18 13:12:31.203 VERBOSE getSetting(HorizontalZoom)
2007-11-18 13:12:31.203 VERBOSE getSetting(VerticalZoom)
2007-11-18 13:12:31.203 INFO DirectShowPlayerBase:TonguelayFile() done
2007-11-18 13:12:31.218 VERBOSE DirectShowPlayerBase:ConfusedetPlaybackRate(1.000000)
2007-11-18 13:12:31.218 VERBOSE Restoring audio
2007-11-18 13:12:31.218 VERBOSE DirectShowPlayerVMR9Custom:ConfusedetProcAmpControl(50, 51, 50, 27)
2007-11-18 13:12:31.218 VERBOSE setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2007-11-18 13:12:31.218 VERBOSE video resolution is 1024 x 576
2007-11-18 13:12:31.218 VERBOSE source is 16:9

It also does this for 4:3 recordings, but when I then play a 16x9 recording:

2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE video resolution is 1024 x 576
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE unknown source aspect ratio...showing full frame
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE getSetting(HorizontalZoom)
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE getSetting(VerticalZoom)
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 INFO DirectShowPlayerBase:TonguelayFile() done
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE DirectShowPlayerBase:ConfusedetPlaybackRate(1.000000)
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE Restoring audio
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE DirectShowPlayerVMR9Custom:ConfusedetProcAmpControl(50, 51, 50, 27)
2007-11-18 13:13:11.875 VERBOSE setVideoWindowPos(0,0,0,0)

This was really the only thing keeping me from moving over to PVRX2 and as I said after I posted this I thought it was a quirk of my setup so I decided to add a custom aspect ratio mode to the config file:

<AspectRatioMode name="16:9" ratio="0,0.120,1,0.880" />

I don't know if this is any good to anyone else because I stretch a widescreen 4:3 image to fit a 16x10 crt TV but it works for me.

Hi there,

I also get this issue with the recording set to system default.

I will try and change the device to something different.

In the mean time, how will placing the config above in the config file help?

Does that just force everything to 16:9?

thanks,

o

Adding the extra row in the config will just give you an extra option when you cycle through the aspect ratios manually with the F7 key.
