Strange issue I have here... I think something went corrupt somewhere in the codecs a few weeks back because WMP could not play Xvid files at that time. I fixed that by uninstalling and installing the codecs and that issue was resolved for the time being.

However, my issue now is that neither GBPVR or WMP 11 can access the MPEG-2 codecs which are installed on the system. I have the Nvidia PureMovie and the Intervideo WinDVD v8 app. WinDVD can play any of the .mpg files that are recorded thru GBPVR by itself, both new and some old ones that were recorded a year ago. So I know the .mpg files are fine. I can also play them from other PCs on the network.

The "Microsoft XP Video Decoder Utility" shows me both of these MPEG-2 codecs installed and I can alternate either as a default. But this does not seem to enable WMP to use the codecs.

In GBPVR I also tried the systm default or either of these codecs. But GBPVR gets a black screen and I have to restart it.

I saw in some forum that I should reinstall DirectX 9c but when I try to do that it says it's already installed. Running 'dxdiag' says that DirectX 9c is working fine.

If I go to Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager, Sound and Video Game Controllers, Video Codecs, I do not see any MPEG-2 decoders there. I tried unisntalling and re-installing each Intervideo and Nvidia decoders to no avail.

The PC does feel like it's running slower than it should be since I don't have anything much on it other than GBPVR and some other media related stuff. That's all the PC does. It's a Dimension 3000 with 1GB of RAM and a P4 at 3Ghz with XP SP2.

I'm tempted to just reimage that thing but I don't want to spend my holidays with that work.

So any guidance into the the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks.

if you go to dvd advanced tab for windows media player what control panel comes up
should be like power dvd or windvd you may need to remove windvd(intervideo)

what was the last media player you installed before all this started happening

Try to play one of these files then zip and attach the pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

stustunz - when I go to WMP's DVD tab, Adanced, it gives me the Nvidia properties.

-----

pBS - you may be on to something - when I lanched muxchecker it gives me the following message:
"NO MULTIPLEXER FILTERS WHERE FOUND ON YOUR MACHINE.

GB-PVR will not function correctly unless you have WinXP SP1 or higher, which has a built-in DVR-MS mux filter."
I don't understand the instructions on looking for "gspot....".

Is there a way to install DVR-MS or should I just re-apply SP2 in XP?

-----

Sub - I shall attempt to generate the log shourtly.

Thanks all.

forget about muxchecker, it shows mux's, not demux's.. playback needs a DEmux.....Smile
muxchecker is only if you want to record mpg from dvb or atsc source..not playback..

oh and Gspot is a program that lets you see what filters you have and which one will be used when a file is played...
can also manipulate them...Smile google for it...lol
j/k tho it does come up first in google, i can imagine lots of other stuff might come up too...lol

I think pBS is correct. It looks like its failing to find a demultiplexer filter (not the same thing as a mux filter, checked with MuxChecker).

You could try reregistering quartz.dll to see if it helps, or reregistering mpg2splt.ax or whatever it's called.

I think I may have solved the problem. I removed all the DivX, XVID, ffdshow and basically all codecs except for WinDVD and Nvidia (the MPEG-2 codecs).

I then installed "Download Codec Pack All in 1" from www.free-codecs.com", in which I selected the MPEG-2 as well as some stream switcher options (at installation) after which everything seems to work. Everything means WMP can play MPEG-2 files and GBPVR can play the .mpg recordings. It's worth noting that in WMP/DVD/Advanced, I now have some AC3 settings as oppoed to the Nvidia one that was there before the codec install.

I tested GBPVR to play the DivX/Xvid files and they seem to work as well. I am not sure if this codec pack will play all of my Divx/Xvid movies but time will tell on that one.

Question - is there a codec pack that you guys would recommend? I have a lot of Divx/Xvid movies and find once in a while that one does not play on on PC but plays on another, etc. Thanks
