With experienced computer help, I have been trying to install an hvr1600 model 1181 on my computer in addition to the existing pvr150. I have 5 slots but the video card and fan covers one of them. The slots are all pci and my motherboard is an asus intel. When we install both cards, the computer reboots itself after 1-10 minutes on a random basis. I can get the system stable with either card but not with both. We have tried various slots and we have checked the new card on a different machine so it seems as if the tuner card is correct.
It is not a driver problem (although that was a problem earlier in the day) because I was able to uninstall the Hauppauge drivers. I am waiting until the system is stable before trying to reinstall the Hauppauge drivers from the CD with version 3.4A (the version applicable to my model of HVR1600)
To complicate the problem, we added 2gb of ram at the same time and about a week ago, I suddenly lost sound and my sndvol32.exe for no obvious reason. Before the installation, we discovered I had 2 sound cards, the one on the motherboard and an additional one. Sound was restored when I reinstalled sndvol32.exe and removed one of the sound cards. As far as I can tell, the sound problem is not the cause of the sporadic and frequent rebooting. My experienced help says the ram might be.
Does anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong or what we could try to fix it?
