I'm in remote hell

Just did a clean install of XP and loaded GBPVR on. Looks good, still tweaking stuff but my main gripe at the moment is the remote control. I don't have a hauppauge remote or a MCE remote so I'm already in pain. It seems that most everything in here is geared towards those two.

However, I have a Streamzap remote with is supposed to be lirc compliant. BUT, the winlirc software seems to be geared toward do it yourself serial IR receiver and the Streamzap is a USB one. No doubt that it does usb to serial conversion, but I'm not sure how to get it up and running with Winlirc. Has anybody had any experience with this particular remote and winlirc?

I figured, if I can get it up and running (the ir receiver) I could make the ir receiver via winlirc work like it was accepting Hauppauge remote signals, dump the Streamzap remote, and use my Harmony 880 to emulate the Hauppauge. The challenge seems to be getting windows/bgpvr/winlirc to work with the Streamzap usb ir receiver.

Oh, and the drivers that come with the remote are useless - they don't work with gbpvr and I can only get the volume and up/down/enter to work with those drivers.

i would try HIP with it
if that doesnt work try eventghost
just make sure you add all the different options when you load hip so you can find the driver that works with the remote
from memory thats what i used to used with mine till i got mce remotes

Well as it turns out, EventGhost solved the problem. It has a plugin for streamzap. However, it did not have the capability to add more keys than what StreamZap supports. So, I can't add just any remote - the ir and the remote are apparently paired. But, that's good enough for me. EventGhost allowed me to map buttons to key presses and VOILA! it's workin'!

thats why hip is better you can learn codes from any remote if it receives the signal

As was discovered in another thread, the Streamzap remote works fine out of the box with GBPVR if you choose the old GUI. Tell GBPVR that you have a MCE remote, and it just works. Switch to the new GUI (PVRX2) and it's all messed up. Since sub says nothing changed in the remote support in X2, it must have something to do with the way that Streamzap sees PVRX2.

Thanks. I ended up getting it working with eventghost, but after I bought the HVR-1600, I just used that remote system instead. Wow, this is an old thread! :p
