Hi all,

After using mythtv for the last year or so, I have had to install windows on my box (gf's orders, she really didnt like linux Sad ) After trying MCE and media portal I started getting rather worried that I wouldnt find a good PVR app that would automatically transcode...then i found GBPVR! So I still want myth back but GBPVR is pretty freakin good........apart from one very annoying problem..

The box keeps restarting itself about 3 times a day. At first i thought it was a hardware or ovreheating issue but I found that if i turn off the GBPVR recording service the box is stable and doesnt reboot.

The relevent specs are...

Core2 Duo 2.4 on Asus P5b Motherboard
4GB DDR2
Nvidia 7900GT PCIe
Dvico Fusion Lite PCI card
2X 1TB HDD's

There doesnt seem to be a trigger for these restarts, it just seems to happen randomly, it can happen whilst recording or whilst just sitting there doing nothing.

does anyone have any ideas?? Its really annoying because apart from this issue the softrware is GREAT.

i really doubt the recording service is the cause of your reboots. what happens prior to the reboot? do you start a recording or live tv? do you get a blue screen / dump? take a look at your event/app log for errors. i guess its a driver issue (i.e. dvico card? video card?)

I've had over a month of uptime on my pvr server, so I can't see it being just the recording service. Do the gbpvr or system logs show anything?

There is nothing in the event log, it just happens without any warning or logging and I havent noticed any blue screens. Like I said, there is no trigger for it that i can find, somtimes it happens when playing back video and sometimes it just happens when totaly idle.. I just go to use it and find it had rebooted, these times i check the event log and the time it had restarted (evident from all the services starting) doesnt seem to be while a recording is scheduled or anything.

OS is XP Pro not MCE

I tried turning off the GBPVR service and left it off for 24 hours and not one single restart.
Once I turned it on again it restarted 3 times in 12 hours.

Itmight be something to do with the Tuner card drivers, I will try to reinstall them or try an older revision perhaps..

It cant really be a hardware fault or overheating issues as this is the exact same box that ran Myth flawlessly often with uptimes of a few weeks. So its gotta be a software issue somewhere, maybe I'll just reinstall the box and start from sratch, see if that changes anything.

Thanks for the reply's guys, it sees from the responses that this isnt a common issue and must be specific to my setup, thjis is what i was really trying to find out.

Cheers.

At the risk of asking questions that you've already tried -- you do have the 'auto restart on blue screen' (ok, that's not what it is called) in XP turned off? That is, if it IS blue screening, it isn't restarting right away before you can get an indication what is happening?

Your challenge feels driverish (is too a word!) to me, but I agree it would be nice if a few more details were available to you.

Thanks Ommina, I had actually tried that just before i read your post. Now I can fiew the BSOD which reports that the issue is with zuluvcap.sys which is a driver file for my fusion hdtv lite.

After a bit of research I found a few people reporting the same problem (mainly mediaportal users) but havent been able to find a fix  .

Oh well, I might just go and invest in another DVB card... I was after a dual tuner one anyway.

Can anyone suggest a good dual tuner card to use with GBPVR??
