This worked great on my HVR3000 system upgrading from 1.2.9. However the upgrade failed with a fatal error on my HVR900 system and rolled back.

I can't find the reason why. Does anyone know where to find the install logs?

All it says is installation failed. I'm looking for an installation log file for more details.

I thin kinstal logs might go to your temp folder C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temporary etc in here some where, But I also not sure if they are very obvious or not, they may just be time based...

Have a look around if you got time....

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?event...er&phase=1
MSI event log is attached.. First time Ive had issues with an install..
running with admin rights..

have seen the older posting re 11708 in forums , but this is less than definative..

use this cmd line or sim to create a detailled log file..
msiexec.exe /i d:\GBPVR\GBPVR10213.msi /l* d:\loggbr.txt

added verbose log file ...

Thanks. I'm also on xpsp3 and my event log shows the same GUID so I guess I'm hitting the same problem as you:-

Property(S): SourcedirProduct = {8F24606B-AB39-4D2F-9F1F-5D7E71B2C3F8}
Property(S): ProductToBeRegistered = 1
Action ended 19:32:23: ExecuteAction. Return value 3.
Action 19:32:23: Fatal_Error.

While you are waiting for a guru, have you read this?
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=7855&

Even though it is not the same error, uninstalling the old version and running the fix suggested by ajm517 probably won't do any harm. It worked for me anyway.

Thanks JimF. Manually removing the service before upgrading did the job for me.

hmmm .. I tried this and still getting the error.. nothing in services and nothing in task list of GB-PVR significance ...

Think I'll go for a full reinstall in previous lower version as feature set increment for this version is minimal..
