What to do with HD TS files??

I hope this query hasn't already been asked.

I have v1.2.13 installed on Vista, with a HVR4000 card. I am using DVB-T in NZ. Have muddled through install and codec selection. All works great within GB-PVR.

What can I use to open / convert the generated .TS recordings?? Currently players like VLC or Media player classic will play video without sound. I think this is to do with NZ's odd deployment of HD TV??

I have been recording kids shows and want to get them in a format so as to edit and write to DVD.

Any help appreciated ( and talk slowly so I understand

The audio standard chosen for New Zealands Freeview HD service is very new, and very little software will play it at this stage. You can play the recordings in GB-PVR, but not much else. I think PowerCinema also plays these files.

VLC and other software etc will eventually be updated to handle this format.

I have only bothered to record the TV3 DVB-T signals since they are in AC-3 so audible on most devices. I have tried to compress them down to a smaller format since a typical show without ads takes 3.3Gb. What I have tried to do is the following:

Cut the ads out using h264_cutter.exe

Demux the audio AC-3 track from the audio using dgavcindex. I think tsremux will also do it. Take the video file (which is AVC format) and pass it through x264.exe to recompress to a smaller size. Mux the audio back using tsremuxer or put it into a mkv container using mkvmerge.

It should theoretically work but I end up with a file with the audio and video out of sync. Worked out this is because, at least for me, when I record TV3 occasionally the audio will have bursts of static in it (a second or so). While this doesn't cause the audio to go out of sync per se, once the audio is extracted and then muxed back, the various programs encounter this static, issue an error message saying bad audio data and delete it. Of course this then causes the rest of the audio and video to go out of sync. So till I can work out what to do, I am just saving the original .ts files on the HD.
