Ghost in the machine

I have a few problems but probably the most pressing one is the fact that the remote stops working for what seems like a random amount of time and then starts again also some buttons don't work. Sometimes channels change 'all by themselves' we've had the exorcist in and we're not haunted so i hope someone out there can point me in the right direction.

2x Hauppauge Nova T 500's
XFX Nvidia 6200 AGP graphics card
Asrock P4165 MB
Pentium P4 3.0 Ghz processor
Standard Hauppauge remote set to MCE remote in config
Windows XP
.NET 3.5
PVRX2 v1.2.13

ps: do I need any of the Hauppauge s/w installed?
