Does anyone have an aspect setting to correctly zoom in to a HD program through an analog source. IE the show is in a 16X9 ratio but it is set to fit inside of a 4X3 screen. I am using the microsoft codec for mpeg2 as it is the only one I could get to reliably work with Microsoft BDA filter for a MUX. Aldo does anyone know how to stop 4X3 recordings from filling the screen if the aspect ratio is set to default.
What I would like automatically is
16X9 720P/1080I content to fill the screen.
4X3 content to have the bars on both sides
16X9 within a 4X3 (letterboxed) to zoom and fill the whole screen ( i Know it won't look as good)

It should already do these by default (assuming you've the TV Shape set to 16x9, and a video decoder other than 'system default', and have pressed F7 to get to the 'auto' aspect ratio mode).

It wont be able to do this automatically. If the video is flagged as 4x3, then it'll be shown in the app as 4x3 (ie, black bars left and right on your 16x9 screen). It wont be aware that the 4x3 broadcast contains a 16x9 bit of real video and black bars added prior to broadcast. You would be able add an aspect ratio mode for this, but you'll have to press F7 each time you want to go to that mode.

The microsoft codec is the system default codec for Mpeg2. Do I need to change in config from system default to specifically set microsoft codec?
Do you know what do I need to put in the aspects to get the zoom aspect ratio to work correctly, or do I just need to guess and check?

Thanks sub

One of the pre-defined aspect ratio choices (F7 to cycle through them) fixes the 16:9 inside 4:3 for me. I think it is "Remove Letterbox". Works fine but has to be manually invoked whenever a program is in this format, but it does stick until manually changed, for example if there is a true 4:3 program and I go back to "Auto". I only have NTSC analog captures and connect to a 16:9 LCD TV, TV aspect in config.exe is set to 16:9. Bottom line: try F7.

Yes. For auto aspect ratio control to work, it needs to know what video decoder you're using.

I'd forgotten about the existing 'remove letterbox' option mentioned in the post above. It should do the job for you.

When i hit F7 it just cycles through AUTO Full and PillarBox. I don't get remove letterbox even though it is listed in the config.xml file. I even tried taking the space out thinking that might be why it didn't show bu no luck.

You may need to be using the VMR9 renderer to get the full list of aspect ratios.
