GBPVR Client Without Server?

I've found that if I start the client up without the server, I get an error (white screen with a red thin x in it). I assume that this happens because the client can't connect to the gbpvr database. This is a bit frustrating because my MP3s and photos and some videos reside on a different box from the gbpvr server and I can't access them without the gbpvr server being on. Also frustrating is that if I'm playing MP3s or videos located on the different box, the gbpvr server will of course go to sleep/hibernate which then starts making the client unresponsive again. Anyway around this?
Regards,
Hasso

Unfortunately there is no easy way around this. Client/Server mode was very much an after though, and it would be quite difficult to get it to work without the server running.

I might be able to add a check at startup to see if it can get to the server database, and if not, then treat it like its not in client mode. This might help.

Is it possible to add an option to gbpvr tray to disable and enable client mode, similar to the stop and start recording service option? I think that's a better way of handling it... Right now, I have to open the config everytime I need to switch modes.

Automatically checking at startup is more elegant, but it begs the question, how would you switch back to client mode? Unless of course GB-PVR automatically polls the server every few minutes or so, and can switch back automatically.

You'd have to restart the app, ie only checks at startup. There is zero chance it'll be changed to dynamically detect the server going up/down.

*sigh* I figured. Oh well, then it seems like the easiest way to implement this is via system tray. :o
