Hi I`m trying to connect a MVP via a homeplug, so my setup is PC to Homplug (No router) and then Homeplug to MVP, But I cannot connect. Is it possible to do without a router.

Thanks

Pete

You can do it without a router, but you will need to install a DHCP server to provide an IP address for the MVP. I've seen Tftpd32 mentioned before. I think that one of your ethernet cables would need to be a crossover also.

I'm gonna go into bit more detail follow up on the previous post:

Well that depends on what type of networking you have.

Are you trying to connect two machines directly?

Well in standard networking, you would just need a crossover cable and have the PC act like DHCP server.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable

But considering that you are trying to do it through homeplugs, First I would see if there are lights to indicate you have a network link between the pc and the homeplug and the other homeplug with mvp. Easy to identify small led on the network ports

If they are lit, great you don't need to crossover. This means the network link is establish and is waiting for network provisioning.

If not, check the homeplugs to see if they have crossover modes. If they do GREAT! If not then either buy or make a crossover cable and connect it to the homeplug. You may or may not need to connect the mvp via crossover cable. But experiment with this, if the pc is lit and mvp is not then you need crossover cable on mvp as well.

A Great way to cut cost would be to buy 6" or 1' crossover cable and and get RJ-45 couplers as seen below

and connect your existing straight Ethernet cables, it will save you money on having to buy new cables to connect to your homeplugs

I saved this for last, once you get the network links up and running. You may or may not see windows warning you about limited connectivity.

If this is the case then you will have to setup a DHCP server on your PC.

Just going to assume you have Windows base machine,

Also if you have a modem or another network card/highspeed connection going, you can use this to enable internet connection sharing or ICS on the other network card supplying your MVP.

guide below will assist you.

Hope this helps.

Hi Thanks for the replys, I`ve got it working with a software DHCP server, No need for crossover cables.

Thankyou both, for the advice
