Can I play avi/mpeg files from a DVD?

I have a slower computer running GBPVR and it just isn't worth the time to wait for the conversion to DVD using something like Showburner. Instead I am just burning the AVI and MPEG files directly from hard drive to DVD.

My question is, is there a way to let GBPVR play these files right from the discs as-is? I assume going to the "DVD" option in the menu wouldn't work as it may be looking for a DVD coded disc (like VOB files etc)

I do that all the time.

I've set up an entry in the Video Library called "DVD files" that simply points to my DVD drive. I make sure the disc is in the drive before I select it.

The downside is that none of the show information is retained, so I have to guess which episode I'm selecting by looking at the date and time in the filename.
