I have a biostar board w/ nforce 2, and I'm trying to hook it up to a Sony home theater to use the 5.1 audio.

The problem is that to get the 6 channels, you need to use the three back ports (out, in, mic). I tried taking a 3-way Y adapter to hook into all three, and then use the regular Y adapter from the receiver to connect to that, but it can't find the individual speakers (or at least I could not get it to).

Has anyone had an luck doing this w/ a non-digtal setup? Or is there a MB w/ onboard audio that is built to?

I have an Asus A7n8X Deluxe boaerd which is nForce2 as well and it has SPDIF out which is a digital out.

true 5.1 cannot be analog as 5.1 is the format for Dolby Digital so I think what you get is pro logic.

If I were you, I would invest in a decent 5.1 or even better 7.1 sound card. You have this nice home theater reciever sitting there getting crappy onboard sound from your motherboard, mine has the nForce 2 sound on it too, and it sounded like absolute crap, thats why I got a Sound Blaster Audigy LS. It's 5.1 and has all the connections for it. Believe me, you will definatly be able to tell the difference. [Image: smile.gif]

I agree - I have an MVP but I briefly tried out my Audigy card on my Sony surround sound - much better than the on motherboard sound.

NM...I just realized that the PCI riser in LC11 supports 2 PCI cards...go me

So the Sound Blaster Audigy LS is cool? The user revirews for the external were terrible.

I don't know about external, but I love my internal [Image: smile.gif] I'm not to sure I would want more devices plugged into my PVR than needed(then again I have the Overture case, which sports a full ATX form factor).

I'm not saying SB Audigy LS is the best by all means, but that is the one I have experience, I've always used SB ever since the days of the 386, and I have never been dissapointed! [Image: smile.gif]

Basically as long as you get some kind of soundcard you will definatly be happier with the quality. I envy your home theater system. [Image: biggrin.gif]
