Changes I am making using the config tool aren't beng written to config.xml.

I open the config tool and change the default skin and select ok. Config.xml file date updates as expected but the active skin in config.xml doesn't update when I look at it with an XML editor. When I look at it with note pad it has updated. Whats going on here? Why would the config tool update the file in notepad view but not in xml view??

Are you sure you're not looking at two different files ?
I would trust notepad over some other xml viewer that may be caching files?

vista user account control strikes again.

sub says you're supposed to delete c:\program data\devnz\gbpvr (note that's NOT c:\program FILES). I say disable User Account Control.

check the windows & system32 directory also, for some reason a couple of times it saved it in there, which is in path so it would update that config.xml and not the one in gbpvr dir...
[i have no idea how it got there, windows glitch i guess]

but i'd agree, it's probably vista UAC [User Abstraction and Confusion. lol]so i'd try disabling that first..

Try stopping the GB-PVR Recording Service, editing the file and then restarting the service.

Yep windows UAC. I'm using W7 and its quite friendly and low key and I'd kind of got used to it. Turned it of in Vista on day one it was so intrusive.

Thanks everyone. You are collectively an extremely respnsive board

The other way around, which I've used so far on my W7 system where I mess with CS4 skins, is to run my editor (notepad++) as administrator. For me at least, W7 wouldn't let me edit GBPVR files at all as a regular user; indeed, it requires both PVRX2 and Config to run as administrator.

I'm thinking of disabling UAC on W7 now where I never did on Vista (on my desktop that is... when my GB-PVR box was running Vista I had UAC off), because it also makes my QuickBooks elevate to admin, which in turn requires that I elevate other programs that I use with Quickbooks, and the list goes on. UAC is better in W7 than Vista, but for me the list of programs that require elevation has greatly increased. This could be a beta issue though - the program compatibility lists probably aren't complete yet.
