I've seen a post a while back stating that patches for PowerDVD will disable their decoder for 3rd party apps. Is this still the case? Is it safe to get the latest version of PowerDVD? I see that you can buy a decoder pack separately here:

Well, i just tried installing a "shareware" copy of PowerDVD 9, and the Cyberlink decoders don't show up in GBPVR config.

I guess they want to force people to use their player so that they can make money off of their movie store. One thing that disgusted me was that you were forced to register (with name and email) before the software would run. I wonder how many John Does from 123 Fake St. they have on file?

Anyone try the Cyberlink codec packs? Does the HD264 pack include decoders for playing a regular MPEG2 DVD? I don't mind buying a legitimate copy, but I want to make sure they work first (and don't need my social security number).

you have to add the names of the codecs in yourself as they hadn't been 'officially' added yet...
just look for the 'friendly name' of the filters in gspot or something and add that to supported h264 decoders in config.xml...Big Grin
you can try any you like that way...[they change the names all the time, new ver etc.]

If I recall correctly, it only disabled the high-definition decoder, the one used for standard DVD decoding still worked fine in 3rd party stuff.

How does it compare to the Nvidia decoder?
