Hi, firstly apologies for the long post - a reflection of my frustration level and lack of knowledge of what is happening.

I have run the Hauppage WinTV software which quickly scans, detects and shows all the local channels (sydney's inner west).

Yet I am unable to get a single scan from gbpvr that includes all channels. Repeated scans eventually leads to the full collection of channels (after manually compiling my own cache scan file) but even after that i get some channels that show the "signal strength" message.

Note that after LOTS of testing in different configurations (passive splitter, active splitter at different levels, using different outlets in the house, turning on other tvs in an effort to "reduce" the signal strength {does that do anything ?}, gbpvr reinstall) I still do not have a way to reproduce reliable results ie the scans seem pretty random on what channels they find.

Channel Seven is a stayer, abc/one/ten most times, nine sometimes, and SBS hardly ever.

Is there any reason WinTV would pick up all channels while gbpv is somewhat more picky ? Any thoughts on troubleshooting this would also be appreciated. I did not want to attach log files until I could get a consistent result. Feel free to state the obvious as I am just getting started.

Thanks in advance.

This is a new install running 1.3.11 with HVR 2200 (WinXP with latest hauppauge card drivers).

Have you installed the patches from the survival guide? some relate to scanning improvements http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=40303

I would use something like this http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=12081 to monitor signal strength and see what channels might be strong or weak.

There should be no difference in signal quality between wintv and gbpvr.

Have you tried both tuners with wintv and got the same results? Or both tuners on gbpvr? Some of the earlier nova-t-500's had a one partially deaf tuner that could confuse matters.

Thanks very much for the advice. Now wishing I had asked last week.

I have now installed the patches and the scans now contain all channels. Excellent.Big Grin

In PVRX2 I am able to see all channels except one for which it states "no signal ...". This one channel (Nine Network Australia) showed up during the scan and also can be viewed in WinTV. I am also using the DVB EPG which works for all channels except "Nine Network Australia" and "SBS Sydney". Both of these channels have epg data in WinTV.

Can anyone advise if either of these problems may correlate with the frequency information below ?

The frequency scan found ...
Network Name = Seven Network
# Signal Strength = -19
# Signal Quality = 100%

Network Name = Nine Network Australia
# Signal Strength = -16
# Signal Quality = 100%

Network Name = Network TEN
# Signal Strength = -16
# Signal Quality = 100%

Network Name = ABC Sydney
# Signal Strength = -17
# Signal Quality = 100%

Network Name = SBS Sydney
# Signal Strength = 15
# Signal Quality = 100%

Network Name = DIGITAL FORTY FOUR
# Signal Strength = -16
# Signal Quality = 100%

Again thanks in advance.

Try ticking the option in the config app to explicitly scan offsets. Australia is one of only a couple of countries that use offsets in their DVB-T system.

Hi Sub, appreciate your time. I have the offset check box ticked and the channel does tune in and is visible during the setup scan, however it is not visible from PVRX2. All other channels are OK - with the exception of the dvb epg problem mentioned above.

I will try replacing the passive splitter with and active one and see if I have any better luck with this one channel.

Thanks
