An old problem has reared its head since I just rebuilt the PVR with a new motherboard and XP installation (see sig). And yes thanks, it now runs more smoothly, plays HD, and changes channels near instantly. Low powered Pentium M looked like a good way to go three years ago but it simply wasn't powerful enough.

I digress.

Following the new XP install, my Arcam learning remote displays the same problems as it did after initial install three years ago, but I can't remember how I fixed it nor does a search here reveal anything.

Problem: No two consecutive identical keypresses using the PVRX2 interface work - ie the first keypress works but the second doesn't.

Example: press UP, that works. Press UP again, nothing happens. But press DOWN, that works, press UP, that works, press UP again, nothing happens. Yet the Hauppauge remote works fine.

Hardware is a USB-attached Hauppauge-sourced IR dongle, tuners are a Hauppauge HVR-4000 and a Compro Videomate S350.

Thoughts gratefully received (your reward is my domestic harmony!).

I can't answer your question, but I'd suggest trying to narrow it down to find out if your irremote.xe and irremote.ini of the Hauppauge IR are working right. If you make an empty file debug.txt and open it with notepad, your Hauppauge remote should send each keystroke to it and display it in the empty file. See if multiple consecutive up arrows are being received and printed in debug.txt.

A more careful search found this which led to this.

In practice all you need to do to fix this issue is:
1. Search the registry for EnableDeBounce
2. Change the value from 1 to 0
3. Reboot.

Moral: Write down all the little tweaks so you don't have to ask/search next time... :o

Sorry to have troubled The Collective.

It's always useful to have a post describing a problem and the solution.

I'd seen the alternating IR code issue in relation to MCE remotes, but for some reason, your description of the problem didn't ring a bell. I thought it had to do only with learning remotes, since the software used with a factory standard remote should automatically deal with that issue.

Also, I hadn't seen the solution (registry entry), so I learned something.

What type of remote do you have?

Alas, I don't know any details about the remote other than it's the one that ships with my Arcam amp.
