you'll also need an AC3 decoder, as about half of the ATSC channels around here use AC3 audio... conveniently, AC3Filter is readily available at http://ac3filter.net
also conveniently, it will happily decode mp2 audio as well, so you can use it for both types of audio.

The MPV/MPA combo appears to work as does ffdshow/ffdshow which I downloaded last night. I did a dual simultaneous record with House on one tuner and a preseason NFL game on the other. Both recordings had no perceptable interruptions in playback, though the NFL game appeared to be filmed at 24 FPS instead of 30. Don't know if that is because KTLA has a subchannel and was saving bandwidth on the game, or a factor of the decoding and playback. House looked perfect, but I'm sure it is cinema-style at 24 fps. Ffdshow appeared a trifle better on the NFL game, but I could certainly live with either depending on if the NFL preseason game was bandwidth limited. The big thing is not having dropped frames etc. when recording two programs.

Thanks for the codec suggestions, good info to have. Are there any commercial codecs that folks think are worth the price that work well under GB? Is there a difference in playback quality? (obviously I'd only purchase after testing with demo versions)
