I have a bit of an annoying issue with my setup. I have included a picture of a VLC player screenshot but this also happens when viewing on a regular TV set.
The picture should show the line/dots across the top of the frame. I enlarged the window vertically a bit so the line/dots are the top limit of the recorded frame.

Anybody have an idea what this is happening and what can be done to fix it?

Thanks

That is the Line 21 data that is encoded in the video stream. It holds the Closed Captioning data (along with other stuff). Normally, the TV overscan would hide that. You should be able to adjust he AspectRatio values in config.xml or adjust the screen position on your TV or video card settings.

hmm, you say the overscan would normally take care of that, any reason why it didn't?
And, if the aspect ratio portion of the config file does need to be changed, do you have a recommended set of values? i looked at the config file, but I'd rather go off of what has worked than really possibly screw it up by trial and error :-)

Well the overscan would not matter when viewing the video in a window, you would have to view it fullscreen. I wouldn't be able to tell you how to adjust the overscan for your TV/video card without knowing the type of TV and Video card you are using. Some TV's don't allow you to adjust the overscan on HD resolutions or on PC inputs.

well, my TV is a Sony 37" (flat style CRT) and I am viewing the programming through a MVP. Not sure if that changes your information needed about the video card.

On he flip side I can certainly mess with the aspectratio settings, but I was hoping for a bit of a crash info post on how to change it.

Yup, that changes things. In your MVP section of config.xml, you will want to alter the following values:

Code:
<MVPWidth>640</MVPWidth>
      <MVPHeight>500</MVPHeight>
      <MVPOffsetX>44</MVPOffsetX>
      <MVPOffsetY>40</MVPOffsetY>

More specifically, you will probably want to adjust MVPHeight and MVPOffsetY. You would want to make MVPHeight a little larger than your screen height and adjust the offset. I'm not that familiar with changing the values though, maybe someone else can help better with that. I do know that there was an MVP Screen Adjustment utility that someone created. It may be on the Wiki.

Edit: Here is that utility.

I've always wondered what that was, thanks Whurlston!! I do see that on one or two channels during certain programs on my system too.
