Black Screen with Recordings and Live TV

Occassionally the PCH's screen will go Black when starting a Recording or LiveTV.
The Audio is fine and menu's are fine.
Rebooted the PCH did not fix the black screen.

I first thought selecting a different codec in Config was fixing it but now just restarting the Recording Service is bringing back the screen display.

I can't really help with "sometime" problems if the logs are not associated with the problem. If you are running HDMI and you leave your NMT running all the time then you are bound to have problems like this, especially if you turn your TV office or you change the HDMI source.

If you really must leave your NMT on for some reason, I'd suggest hitting the Eject followed by Delete to see if it clears the problem, this is in theory an HDMI reset.

A blank screen with LiveTV is a known problem and the server does get blocked, so you are correct a PCH reboot won't help, but you can restart the server or from the command line type taskkill /IM NextPVR.exe /f if you have recordings. There may be patches around the aren't in johnsonx42's rollup, this problem is less frequent for me now.

The logs were zipped right after a recorded show failed and I attempted a live tv show as a test.
I will try your suggestion on HDMI reset as I do leave the pch on.

Thanks that is clearer, and since the logs don't show any problem, it definitely looks like you let it run overnight, and I would suspect the HDMI problem. For some reason people like to turn off all the electronics in their house except their MVP's and NMT's and HDMI handshaking is a real nuisance.

If you really prefer leaving your NMT on, you can run component.

Since you are up to speed on this HDMI Handshaking I wonder why the menu's would show but playback will show black screen.
Re-initializing the PCH"s video with Eject/Delete or TVMode+0 then 7 will correct the loss of video.

The menus use a newer SDK that has more robust HDMI handling but unfortunately this SDK doesn't support mpeg playback well enough to use for anything other than DVD playback. When I started mvpmcx2 I was actually told that it would be impossible to mix the two SDK's.
