mvallevand Wrote:I will write something on this but I will show you how my guide is a mess, if I want to record the CBC National news tonight I get the attached.

CBOT = analog cable, CBOT-DT ATSC ,CBOT-DA HDVPR
CBNEWS = analog cable CBNEWHD HDPVR

I would like to be able to merge these into two EPG entries and have the Recording Quality determine which tuner to prefer.

Pretty much all shows are like this because they are on US and Canadian HD and SD. This is worse because for now the ATSC is limited, but all local stations will be HD this year.
Ok, I understand the request. I must admit it sounds like a very niche request though, with most people not having this type of data in their EPG, and when they do it it'll often not reflect the reality of the signals they're receiving (for example, svideo from STB which received the original HD broadcast).

That said, I will be making several changes to the scheduler and device allocation in the near future though, so I'll see if this can be accommodated at the same time.

bgowland Wrote:From my personal point of view, I've always been interested in this sort of facility (going back to my early use of gbpvr) but I've never actively sought it out due to quality / consistency of EPG data.

I have a simple setup which is basically SD DVB-T. The DVB OTA EPG is primitive to say the least so I tend to use XMLTV from the Radio Times website. Some of the programme data is quite detailed as in your example but very often it only goes so far or is completely lacking.

Ultimately that means, ironically, I don't trust the EPG data source to provide full details and therefore haven't really looked at the possibilities. Something which provided recommendations based on previous activity (rather than automatically scheduled recordings) would certainly be interesting though.

Cheers,
Brian

A long time ago I suggested a plugin that analyzes the description of all shows you record/watch, and based on keywords from that, scans the EPG and makes a daily list of "shows you may want to watch". With some degree AI this could be a very useful plugin Smile

Perhaps rather than depending on EPG data (though I probably have it since I use Schedules Direct), perhaps you could make this more useful to everyone if you simply let the user flag a channel as being HD or SD when they do the mappings. Then the various HD and SD flavors of the channel could be merged, and as Martin said use the Recording Quality setting to determine which tuner or version of the channel to use.

This is what I have been asking for, I don't expect the EPG data to help, I was just showing it is possible.

All due respect gentlemen but even though this is in General Discussion I think this particular thread has been hi-jacked slightly. Time for a relocation of discussion to another thread perhaps?

I agree with Brian on this one for us UK users - The title is the only thing guaranteed in our EPG's. There was a spate of a few weeks where "series 36 episode 1" appeared, changed to "1 of 8" and then seems to be missing completely. Being able to pick anything out of this is probably impossible. I tend to record everything with the title I'm after and then have to view them all to manually delete duplicates. (tedious, but better than the earache if I miss one!).

Titles still can provide a lot of information via IMDB though for major programs and most movies, which is where I wanted to make the enhancement, possibly provide something like what Tivo provides without having to buy an STB. In the next two weeks I have 980 unique movies available for recording and I really need automation to reduce this to a manageable number.
