Hello NPVR Community,

I need your help.
I'm trying to turn my home server into a web based PVR with NPVR.
So far I have hit some major roadblocks I'm hoping you can help with.

Here is some info:

Environment:
Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2 + Desktop Experience (aka Windows Media Player)

The following software has been installed:
Microsoft .NET Runtime v2.0
DirectX 9.0c runtimes
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Runtimes.
CCCP Codec Pack
NPVR

Tuner Card:
Ati Theater 650 pro (FilterCheck.log in SOS package)

Problems:

1. I can play DVDs put the screen is upside-down.
(This really is a minor issue, what I really want to work is the PVR)

2. I cannot watch live TV. Everytime I try it says Unable to locate Crossbar Filter
(Screenshot included in SOS package along with logs)

To me the logs do not indicate a problem. Please assist.

In the settings menu it complains it cannot find DirectX. I installed both DirectX and DirectX 11 runtimes.

I am really new to this software and would really like to get it working.
All help appriciated.

I would suggest trying some alternative MPEG decoders.

As for the DirectX message, you need the version listed here: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...requisites

The analog side of the 650 Theater Pro works in NPVR with the Hauppauge mux filter. The sticky and the wiki should help explain it, as McBain points out. The digital side works with clear QAM.,

Ahhhh McBain

Thanks for the reponse guys.

I was able to figure out how to get the analog card installed and NPVR does recognize it.
Please see 00.png.

I did install the exact version of DirectX that you pointed out and restarted and it still is not happy. Please see the error the DirectX installer now gives in 01.png

As for the filters, this part my knowledge is very weak. I understand many things about computers but not so much filters. I have installed CCCP but my filters section in the GUI is different than yours.

Please see 02.png.

I did, just for the hell of it, do what the post said, know change:

Got any further ideas?

Regarding DirectX - I have had the same problem installing the web/runtime version that is linked on the forum. I had to download and install the entire directX package (35 MB or so) in order to not have the red warning message. Note, however, that directX is only needed for smooth UI/menu performance, and does not, as I understand, enter into the playback of video. You could probably ignore it for the moment. My experience is in Win 7.

NPVR and the ATI 650 produce MPEG2 video in a transport stream (.ts) container for analog recordings. The only decoders you should need to configure for these recordings are MPEG2 video and MPEG1 audio. ffdshow should work for both audio and video, but there are many settings to adjust - search the forum (including the gbpvr support forum) for guidance on this.

Someone more knowledgeable will have to weigh in on the Server 2008 aspect.

After getting the capture card recognized, the next step is defining the program guide and getting channels configured. NPVR is program guide centric, its value lies in the use of the guide to set up recordings. Where are you on this? I'm not familiar with the guide options for Canada; there are several Canadian experts that can help, though. Are you on cable or over the air (OTA)?

Server 2008 doesn't include BDA support, so you'll need to get those components installed. Otherwise the basic parts of the TV Card won't be available to any application. (in this case the Crossbar filter is the first component it tries to use)

http://www.win2008workstation.com/forum/...=22&t=1023

A user sent this back to me after getting it working:

I can recommend the following steps for future users with the same issues, however, this should be done by people who really know what they are doing (reg mods & system file replacements…Wink

- Install clean win 2008r2 x64 and enable services themes, windows audio, feature desktop experience, latest video & sound drivers

- Install latest DirectX runtimes from Microsoft Site http://www.microsoft.com/directx

- Install BDA_R2__TV_Card_.msi

- Reboot

- Run Analog Tuner.reg

- Run analogue1.reg

- Reboot

- Copy contents from ‘BDA for 2008R2 using Win7 files x64 only.Zip’ to ROOT of systemdrive (I built this file, all necessary files are already inside)

- Run c:\bdaforserver\Setup For x64\Setup BDA.bat and when asked for bda.inf go to c:\bdaforserver\bda NEVER overwrite if system states the target is NEWER
