Start NVPR from IR remote

I have started using Next PVR as my first choice PVR. To control it I generally use an IR Media Centre remote control, this works all the functions, but will not start NVPR, I have to do that from a mouse or keyboard.
I uninstalled Windows Media Centre as it seemed to have some negative effects on NVPR and is also now redundant.
Now when I press the start Media Centre button nothing happens (no surprise there!), but is it possible to put some command in NVPR that will start it from the remote control command?

What kind of remote control have you got?

HIP (http://byremote.com.au/HIP/) or a similar application might help you assign a "launch NextPVR" action to the r/c key you want to use.

If you're using a MCE remote, you can re-assign the media center button by editing the registry. Create a shortcut on the desktop for NPVR and give it a ctrl-alt key shortcut; I use ctrl-alt-n. Then, you can edit the registry to assign the start button to ctrl-alt-n.

you can use the same .reg file http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/uploads/Manual/nativemce.zip if you make a desktop shortcut to npvr.exe and give it shorcut key of control-alt-p...
just unpack the zip and run .reg file as admin and hit yes to import...

unplug mce ir dongle and replug in and it should work immediately without reboot...

I installed HIP to also solve some other key mapping problems.
HIP will allow you to start programs with remote

Thanks for the help on this problem.
I have tried the solution from pBS as it seemed the most straightforward to implement, although I did create a restore point before running the reg file JIC.
The remote now starts NVPR from the power button instead of the dedicated MCE button (Green Home button), I can't put the PC to sleep now from the remote but I can live with that.

sure ya can, just install the system plugin and you can shut down, sleep, etc from menus..
