No Sound in Live TV - HD-PVR 2

Here is a slightly later one, which removes a bug that would have required you to hit the 'ok' button to save the input selection values before using the 'Import' button (the 'Add' button did not have this problem).

OK.

1. I deleted the entire HDPVR2 device,
2. I then closed NPVR nd stopped the service.
3. Restarted NPVR service and NPVR.
4. Re-discovered HDPVR device and set input to HDMI.
5. Imported channels.

Voila! Now channel sources show 'HDMI,HDMI' using the NShared.dll you just supplied. I now have sound with HDMI as well!

However, I get stuttering after a few seconds. Could be a decoder issue. Can you share your decoder selections? Mainly for H.264 video and AAC audio.

I'm using the ArcSoft H.264 decoder, and the LAV audio decoder for AAC.

OK. I tried your Codec recommendation but I still got stuttering.

I next reduced the resolution of the signal from my satellite tuner to the HD PVR 2 from 1080i to 480p and the stuttering stopped.
suspecting the bit-rate was at fault, I re-increased the resolution from the satellite tuner back to 1080i but reduced the HD PVR 2 encoder bit rate from 14Mbps to 8Mbps and still got stuttering.

I now suspect my video 'card' (crappy integrated intel graphics on an i3-530 CPU). I will try my setup on a machine with an Nvidia GT-430 and report back.

First, I want to thank sub and Martin for their kind assistance with solving the HDMI audio problem. Now on to the Live TV stuttering issue...

I installed NPVR and the HD PVR 2 on another machine (Intel e3400 CPU) with a more powerful graphics card (Nvidia GT-430) and I still got stuttering. This suggested the Intel Graphics on the other machine was not the problem.

After playing around with decoders (to no avail) I finally tried a Video renderer other than the default EVR and voila! no stuttering. All the VMR9 renderers have NO stuttering, albeit at a slight loss in picture quality.

I would prefer to use the EVR renderer if possible. I have the madVR renderer installed , but it requires serious CPU resources resulting video lag (LAV uses CUVID to offload the CPU but its H.264 decoder does not play well with NPVR's MPEG-2 demux).

Has anyone had similar experience? Suggestions are welcome.
