Okay,

I must be still missing something from my setup. I've now got recording working (using a Hauppauge PVR150) but when I play back any recorded video, I get audio, but the video is just a solid green screen, no picture. My HTPC box has an onboard Matrox MGA200 vidcard. I've tried using VMR9 and VMR7 for playback and it doesn't change. If I set to Overlay, I get a black screen and no sound. Also, if I change the MPEG2 decoder from System Default to the only other one available (InterVideo NonCSS) I'll get the first frame of video, with no audio, and no video after that (if I resize the window at any time at that point, it goes black). Anyone have an idea of what I could be doing wrong and how to fix it?

Note: I just found out if I switch to my Sigma Designs XCard for hardware MPEG2 playback, video/audio playback works, but since I'm playing back through VGA output currently, the frontend screens aren't sized correctly, and the moment I exit GBPVR (something I've mentioned in another thread) it terminates with a black screen and doesn't dump me to the Windows desktop like it should. I figured I'd post this as additional troubleshooting info to see if it would help shed any light.

if there is only one other availalbe, system default will be this one. it does sound like a decoder problem, you can download trial versions of powerdvd and windvd, and i think nvdvd, try one of those as the decoder (powerdvd only support overlay).

If you also have an xcard in you machine, its likely to be the it's drivers getting in the way. Click Start -> Programs -> REALMagic Hollywood Plus -> Filters Control. Disable the decoder filter and splitter filter, then click OK and close. VMR9 should now work for you.

The Sigma Designs drivers are very determined to be the playback components, and try to insert themselves into playback graphs even when they not wanted.

Thanks for the note, Sub. Disabled all splitters, and that brought things up. Now I just have to find the best MPEG-2 decoder for low cpu usage but still decent quality video.
