I have recently moved from BTV where I had a Hauppauge PVR-250 (single tuner) and PVR-500 (dual tuner). My initial aim was to replace the PVR-500 with a DVB-T tuner (Hauppauge WinTV Duet USB) and keep the PVR-250 with USBUIRT for recording from my Virgin Media box.

Despite multiple attempts I was unable to get the PVR-250 to function within NextPVR. Configuration was (from clean OS install):

Windows 7
PVR-250 Drivers (lastest version driver only install from Hauppauge website)
WINTV Duet Drivers (lastest version driver only install from Hauppauge website)
Hauppauge WinTV 7 (for SoftPVR)
NextPVR with latest patches

NextPVR sees the PVR-250 and allows me to configure it correctly and add channels from my XMLTV feed (all mapped to the composite input).

However, when trying to view Live TV or make a recording, the nRecord.exe service immediately terminates. The WinTV application works fine with the PVR-250.

After failing to resolve I performed another clean OS build with the same results.

To get things going I eventually replaced the PVR-250 with the PVR-500 using a single tuner and all works perfectly.

Interest is more academic now as I do have a working system (and unfortunately no longer have the log files) but would be interested to know if anyone else managed to get this card working under 3.1.1?

Can't help with the PVR250, but I have a PVR150 pci and PVR150 USB working fine under the current version. (main and test machine from a Sky box, using RF).

Win7 64bit? If so you must use less than 4GB or RAM (you can use msconfig to reduce it to 4095)

doesn't the 4gb ram issue affect the PVR-500 too?

I do seem to recall seeing previous threads where people couldn't get the PVR-250 working.

I seem to remember a thread a while back that sub mentioned it caused a problem only with the PVR-250 (but it may have also been for the PVR-350 as well) but the PVR-150's & PVR-500's aren't affected...

Thanks all, sounds promising. I'll verified that the service was running on my system (Win7, 32bit, 2GB RAM) which I have now stopped. I'll swap the PVR-500 out with the PVR-250 over the weekend when I can get downtime on the system to test it out and report back.

Yeah, the PVR250 and PVR350 need the Hauppauge TV Server stopped. These very old devices had drivers which only supported a single instance of the filter. All other devices support multiple instances (but only one can be running at a time). Hauppauge TV Server was tying up that single instance.

That was it - thanks everyone for your support. PVR-250 now working perfectly once the service was stopped.
