I've performed a lot of test runs lately on my windows 8.1 machine.
These are my list of conclusions and findings:
- The configuration of the CT tuners and CI module, made by the digital devices configuration program, are only written into the windows registry.
- Only at the moment of loading the device drivers or at boot time these settings in the windows registry are being read.
- All changes that are made after a boot process or loading of the device drivers are only written into the windows registry, but won't be activated immediately until the next boot time or reload of the device drivers.
- The digital devices CT tuners and CI module doesn't make use of any separate initialization program in your startup configuration of windows.
- NextPVR doesn't support directly a digital devices twin CI module card.
- All configured CT tuners, which has been defined to be used WITHOUT a connection to a specific digital devices CI module in the digital devices configuration program, can be used for all FTA channels. Of course, in this configuration, all encrypted channels aren't accessible.
- All configured CT tuners, which has been defined to be uses WITH a connection to a specific digital devices CI module in the digital devices configuration program, can't be used for either FTA and encrypted channels. In this configuration the CT tuners are totally unusable within NextPVR.
- The filtercheck.log shows a different configuration between with and without a configured connection of a digital devices CI module and its connected CT tuner. You only will see these different logs when you performed a reboot or a reload of the device drivers in between.
As a controlled counter system, I've done also some test runs in MediaPortal, which has direct support for the CT tuners as well as the CI module.
These are my findings:
- All FTA channels work perfectly with or without a configured connection of a CT tuner to a digital devices CI module.
- All encrypted channels work perfectly only with a configured connection of a CT tuner to a digital devices CI module.
- When you make use of a digital devices twin CI module, you'll see that MediaPortal totally isn't aware of the existence of the second CI module. So, only the CT tuners that are configured with the first CI module can be used for watching encrypted channels.
Next step in my strategy is to bypass the direct use of the digital devices CI module by the use of a softcam in NextPVR.
I'll report later my results of this next step.
