No, but it was one aspect of his problem.

Hi.

I don't think its permission on the C:\TEmp folder, because its managing to create 0K files in there....

I can't test the software that came with the card, because it didn't come with any, and I can't find any on their website ! (TBS6280). It was working fine on Windows 8.1 in WMC yesterday though...

I've tried turning on 'libavcode' next to mpeg2 within the mpeg2 decoder section but its not helped...

Yes NDigitalHost is repeatedly crashing - but it does disappear from task manager - crash event below.

Faulting application name: NDigitalHost.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x55e11f7e
Faulting module name: MSVCR110.dll, version: 11.0.51106.1, time stamp: 0x5098858e
Exception code: 0xc0000409
Fault offset: 0x0009f967
Faulting process ID: 0x5e4
Faulting application start time: 0x01d0e35119a0be44
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\NDigitalHost.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\MSVCR110.dll
Report ID: a2fb72d1-688c-4213-84e5-4fec3534c6c2
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

More logs attached if anyone can be bothered helping me any more! Sorry for being a pain...

Does a c:\temp\crash.mdmp get created when this NDigitalHost.exe crash happens?

that's how windows permissions work in some scenarios, you can create the file, but not write anything to it.

the effectiveness of that fix will be revealed later on once NDigitalHost stops crashing before writing any data

Thanks all, again.

I've set c:\temp to be full control for 'everyone'.

It has changed behaviour slightly, now the 0kb files are being deleted after it gives up (before the 0kb files were accumulating..), ngitalhost is still crashing though (no dmp file)

If I try and record, rather than watch, the same thing happens - it creates a folder and a 0kb file inside it.

Its all very odd!

Yeah, it is very odd.

If you're up for it, I'm happy to remote into the machine and take look. If you do want to go down this path, install teamviewer, and PM me the machine ID and pin it allocates. I'd only need 10-15 minutes to take a look.

Thank you very much indeed to Sub for his help this evening (my time). As someone who works in IT remote-controlling hapless user's PCs, it was enjoyable watching him get to the bottom of my problem!

It appears I accidentally changed a setting for Devices > Tuner card > common interface to ci/CAM :common interface / h/w - once set to 'None' it started working.

Now that its working I can see this is a great system, and a good replacement for media center.

I've made a donation as a thank you for the help, and the software.

I've got some questions about how to restore (after maximisation of the window) and how to make it maximise on my 2nd monitor (it always jumps to my primary monitor when maximised) but I'll ask that in the relevant place.

I think I reported a bug about this awhile back, but it's not something I normally do (just stumbled across it one day while testing something else) so it probably never made it on to my list-o-things-to-fix. sub just LOVES my lists.
