Hi, I have an old HDHomeRun and a well-spec'ed Windows box.  When I view TV on using HDHomeRun's app it is just fine. When I view it or record it in NextPVR it is choppy as.  Australia so mostly MPEG-2 and 4.   I have tried lots of things.  Any Ideas?

You didn't supply logs, so we can only guess...

A couple of questions/guesses: What model HDHR is it? What is the source for the HDHR (i.e. over the air antenna, cable)? While the HDHR is tuned to one of the channels, what is it showing for the average signal strength? In NextPVR, which device type for the HDHR did you select? Generally, the HDHR version will be the best since it uses a TCP (lossless) connection from the HDHR to the server rather than an UDP connection which can have dropped packets due to network conditions.

Model is HDHomeRun connect duo HDHR4-2DT
Source is antenna
Signal Strength 91-92%, Signal quality 100%, Streaming rate 4.422 Mbs
NextPVR never gave me the choice of device type, sets both tuners to HDHR
Both HDHR and Windows PC are on the same 1000 Mb switch
What does not make sense to me is that the HDHomeRun app is not choppy at all.
I have logs zipped if they help. But I don't see anything of note in them.

No logs no problems. We don't even no what client you are talking about. Send the logs from the main settings web page.

I found if I set my MTU to 1460 all my streaming are smoother, as all network connections have overhead,

If you're working with Ethernet, the standard starting point is usually 1500 bytes. But if you're handling a VPN, you might need to lower the MTU to around 1400 bytes to avoid issues with the encryption overhead.

If it’s smooth in the HDHomeRun app but choppy in NextPVR 8 Ball Billiards, that rules out signal issues and points more toward decoding or buffering settings in NextPVR.

Without logs no problems, we don't even know if it is NextPVR client. Certainly if it's NextPVR.exe not have the LAV32 bit decoder installed and configured could explain playback issues.

I had similar stuttering until I switched to LAV Filters or tried using the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder.
