OK, tried the command line, that smoothed it out, even with live TV and with timeshift. But, it prevents me from toggle (alt-tab) to other windows (like this forum), but you probably knew that.

No other decoders listed. So, maybe I need to get something. What do you suggest? Again, I am new to all this. Computer is a week old, GBPVR is a day old.

Thanks Again

From comand line it is smooth, even in live TV and time shift.

The only choice is system default, so I guess I don't have any to select. What do you recommend?

I am new to this, computer is a week old, gbpvr a day old.

Thansk for your patience.

Yep, it entirely takes over the video card. Its up to you whether you use this or not, but at least you now know you can smooth video this way if you need to.

If you dont have anything other than 'system default' listed, then you probably dont have decent MPEG2 decoders installed, so definitely worth installing some others to try.

Its hard for me to give recommendations for this. We dont have HDTV here in NZ so I've never personally used any decoders with high definition content. If you do a forum search I'm sure you'll find some recommendations.

Commonly used pay decoders are the nvidia or cyberlink ones.

I'm not sure how these decoders cope with high def video, but a couple decent free decoders are:

OK, I'll try a few things tomorrow. Late here, that's enough.

Full screen takeover was bad news when it locked up (changing channels it locked up)

So, time to try some decoders. I would guess invidea would be a good choice, since that is my video card.

I'll let you know.

Thanks

Oh, if I decide to use the -fse, is there a way to use that option with the gbpvr tray icon? Or just a shortcut on the desk?

Thanks

You'd just have to create your own shortcut for it for now. The next release has an option for it in the config app, which will apply to the tray icon etc.

Well, I tried both those free codecs. The first, dscaler, did not work. If I press teh decoder options in config, it crashes. If I try to run the PVRX2, when I click on "LiveTV, it pauses, then comes back to the main menu.

The second, MPV, still jitters.

I also, before this, changed quartz to the 9.0b vesion as noted in the sticky.

I ran Overlay option and entered through gbpvr rather than pvrx2 and it is smooth. Is there a command line for overlay?

I will look at other threads for hints/help in this jitery area, but I am suspecig it may not be the coec.

Overlay is a much older technology, and some video card support it better than the newer VMR renderers.

No, PVRX2 does not support Overlay. It doesnt have the features required by PVRX2.

I was able to run dscaler in video playback, still choppy. Still would not work for live TV.

I suppose I can try the nvidia. Not sure that will fix it. Looks like they have a trial version, I'll give that a shot after dinner.

BTW, what video card are you using? and are you trying to view high def 1080i content?

At least you know you can get smooth video with -fse if you need to.
