I always think the OS should be able to run whatever program without needing to add another software on top of it to work. Other than a major Service Pack it should run whatever program on it without a problem. The MS.NET I usually disliked it since programs should be able to be coded without needing it like a crutch. I do a lot of compatibility testing and also archiving of links should they no longer be available they can be accessed by anyone on the internet so those MS.NET versions are now archived up to Vista. I foresee Windows 7 to keep getting these mini MS.NET updates for at least another decade or so it'll be awhile before those stop. I'm hoping NextPVR can hang on 4.6 for as long as possible. You only have to archive these links once properly so everyone has access to them and it's just a small part of my time to help others. Anytime MS kills a link you will see a helicopter logo saying it's missing but once it's archived anyone can now go back and retrieve it possibly 20 years from now unless something drastic has changed in the way the internet is accessed. I also discovered another site that archived it way back to MS.NET v1.0 so it's now possible to test every MS.NET version released. I also found some programs that seem to be unaware of the newer MS.NET versions so you still have to install the older ones even though the newer ones are supposed to be fully backwards compatible. I do try not to bloat the OS if possible sticking with just the minimum necessary files installed to run all my programs although Vista is quite bloated enough as it is compared to XP. I have just recently modified the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver to perform as if it were the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and got rid of the extra foreign language files bloat. I'm now able to play Blu-rays on it and it's quite smooth and now on par with even a low end discrete graphics card. Sometimes certain things newer isn't always better but that's another story to tell. The next major project is testing the the 9th Generation i9-9900K Octacore with 16 threads on compatibility with legacy software and seeing any issues with NextPVR as it supposedly has fixed the Spectre Meltdown issue. Amazon's PreOrders did not commit to their October 18th Launch date so it's being pushed to sometime in December when Intel has them in stock. Currently I've successfully got running DOS, 98SE, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 10 all working on the first 8th Gen Hexacore Coffee Lake CPU. I had not tried entering 4 digits randomly before and didn't see any blinking of the numbers like a VCR time adjuster to let me know. I figured hitting Enter on the Start time would have triggered a manual input of the time or after hitting the first digit it would reflect that number right away as I'm entering it one digit at a time. This 4 digit manual input I found is pretty good. I can now put the exact start time instead of stuck at 10 minute precision intervals which made me use more of the pre padding for some awkward shows that start at an odd time.

For predetermined TV Guide EPG slot recordings if the show goes into overtime like the World Series did going 19 innings recently breaking a record and the original estimated end time in the TV Guide setting expected it to end at 8PM but it actually carried on till past midnight lasting another 4.5 hours. Since the Post Padding max is limited to 89 Minutes this would have interrupted the World Series recording prematurely as the max would have been 9:29PM given you can't push it past 89 Minutes past 8PM. So if you can include another setting in the Settings, Recording: Called "Pre/Post Padding Max Mins": 600000" is the new Max Value This will even cover recording a single channel for a year straight without interruption. [Settings, Recordings Window at the bottom] Pre Padding Mins:X ..... Post Padding Mins: X ..... "Pre/Post Padding Max Mins: 600000" <--- Add Pre Padding Mins just sets the default for the mins buffer before the show begins. (Currently Present) Post Padding Mins just sets the default for the mins after the show ends. (Currently Present) Pre/Post Padding Max Mins allows the Pre Padding and Post Paddings Mins to be adjusted in either direction up to 600000 if they wanted to enter this manually or use the left or right arrow to scroll the padding time in Mins adjustment. But since I had stored roughly 100TB of recordings over the years using WinTV 7 before I started using NextPVR I had compared the videos using the same VLC version and once Closed Caption was enabled during the playback it made the NextPVR videos more sluggish than the WinTV 7 recorded ones using the Live TV Windows Instant Record button method. I never used the Recording Scheduler in it as it never worked right and often times the recorded videos for whatever reason ended up not being playable in VLC in some cases. I'll do some more comparisons with the Closed Caption turned on during Playback using VLC but I'm pretty sure it's related to the encoder being used that differed between the two programs. What I could do is reanalyze the recordings again or even attempt to record the same show simultaneously and compare again. But the recordings were done in WinTV under XP Pro SP3. I'll have to figure out what was the last version of NextPVR that worked in XP which supported up to MS.NET v4.0 to do an unbiased comparison video. Currently the NextPVR videos recorded are done in Vista and WinTV 7 doesn't seem to work correctly in Vista being a Blank video screen but the audio comes through.Nice to know you were involved in Hauppauge. But one nagging thing about WinTV is to install the program I have to keep the CD in the tray. Is there a way to bypass the CD from needing to be in the optical drive to install WinTV? Not every system I have has an optical drive so I always wondered if there was some way to modify the WinTV installer to not do a CD check and just install from the install folder directly? I supposed being involved in WinTV restricts you in some way from making NextPVR similar in functionality or are you allowed to use what you learned to produce a better WinTV Live Tuner recording interface? I can tell you one bug I found that annoyed me that probably never got fixed in WinTV. If you hit the Red Recording Button in Minimized Mode then you Maximize the Windows the Red Recording Button appears dim again making you think the Recording has stopped. Then reminimizing the Red Recording Button appears lit again. The only way that I was able to fix this was after Maximizing the WinTV Window I hit the Stop button and hit the Red Recording Button and it would now appear lit in both Minimized or Maximized states.

It sounds like this will just be related to the choice of video decoders, or possibly video renderer. There is no reason you shouldn't get video on Vista. I haven't worked there for about two and half years. Personally I was never a huge fan of the WinTV app though. I didn't like the UI, and had to live within the limitations of some old legacy cruft (and it would have been better to rip out and replace this stuff, but I wasn't allowed to)

It's just some things about Hauppauge's software that I also noticed when I first used their newer ATSC and ClearQAM tuners with WinTV. I wasn't a fan of registering stuff to make any troubleshooting tickets to get any bugs fixed. I had used one of their older models ages ago I think it came with WinTV2000 and the Radio FM tuner app. The only thing I couldn't get them to do was produce just a XP driver for their Quad tuner which I think shouldn't be that hard to do. Almost every tuner or product they had supported XP until the Quad tuner. They even came out with a new USB Dual tuner that had XP drivers right before it. I supposed they might release a USB Quad tuner eventually. I'm looking forward to a possible octatuner PCIe card for Vista. Probably all you'll ever need for a typical OTA HTPC. I agree their WinTV app wasn't great but just enough to get you by is how I saw it. I had to do a lot of WinTV overlapping recording windows shuffling to get all the Red Record buttons started and stopped as quickly as possible between stations which didn't always have the same exact start time so it was a little hectic during the hourly breaks between shows. One thing I did like about that version 7.0 was it worked without needing to upgrade to a newer MS.NET so any basic XP install could run it instantly. [Recordings Feature] If you don't think adding my idea of Pre/Post Padding Max Mins: 600000 can be done, maybe just alter the range for the Post Padding from (-5 Min, 89 Max) to (-59 Min, 1502 Max) would be sufficient and less work. [Out of Space Warning Feature] One thing that I've been wanting to mention for a year was adding some sort of Recording space left overlay on main NPVR screen at the top middle. Whatever drives are listed in the Recording Directories. Example: When setting the directory say to X:\Manual Recordings just default the Name labeled automatically to X instead of typing in a name? So if the drive was C:\Manual Recordings it would automatically get labeled the name C. If someone wanted to to edit or create a custom name they could do so manually in the settings with the Edit button. This saves the user from having to use the keyboard and could use the mouse only to select their recording directory. Then on the top middle to the left of the Current Date and Time it would display the first 2 DRIVE(S) at the top being recorded to currently and if there is another drive in the Recording Directories it will list it below it on the screen. [Storage Space Status] ........................................................[Date/Time] X: 5000.00 GB remaining - Recording C: 250.00 GB remaining - Idle But the GB remaining will be in "Real Time" so you will know if you are running out of space and how much is left without refreshing. I've had many accidental recordings just not occur because I didn't realize it ran out of space so nothing was recorded. You can even set a customizeable setting in Settings, Recording for "Low Recording Space Warning Limit" Say the customizeable default was set to 10.00GB and once it is hit it will start flashing the message "C: 10.00 GB remaining - Recording" in Red and play their own custom .wav sound file that user can select which will play every 10 seconds to warn them and get their attention and take action before they run out of recording space.

BUT not is all lost.. hah.. I'm on a limited time for $60/m internet 250mb down (which I get 300mb+) then it goes back to $99/m and at that point I may play the ping pong game... jump back to xfinity for a 2y contract and be back on the game of hdhomerun prime, etc.. hah... so to keep it real and keep this thread alive... I was looking on my desk where my boxes are stacked and I saw the Hauppauge Quad box... took it down and looked inside to which I saw the card, then got me trying to remember and got me back to this post!!!! HAH... sub - I know you mentioned somewhere in this thread that all 16 PIP was noisy with audio.. and I asked about a selecting mute button per so you could theoretically say have one large PIP and a few smaller ones muted.. for that die hard football watcher... soccer watcher.. soccer/football/ufc watcher!!!! lol SIDE NOTE - I just googled to see how much this card is and its still $99ish BUT I see this card WinTV-HVR-2255 $600-$700!!!!!!! WHY SO MUCH!!!???!?!?!?

Note that the quadHDs showing 170 channels are the problematic ones and those 170 channels are a legacy from a scan many months ago - I can't figure out how to empty the list of channels except one at a time. But I never use it and only went in there to see if it was able to list each tuner separately as NPVR does (it can't). I'm not fussed about the difference between 208 and 178. What I'm fussed about is experiencing the same problem someone here mentioned in October, which is that NPVR is reporting two of the tuners as having zero channels while the other two are populated, and that this appears to be a relatively new situation. It definitely did not apply earlier in 2018 because I used to tune off one that no longer populates and that copy the channels to the other three.

You need to post your logs showing a recording problem, the database you sent yesterday does have 170 channels for each of 6 tuners.
