Offering up my first hand experiences with the HD-PVR which I received a few days back...

Got it all hooked up, installed all the items on the distribution CD, loaded up ArcSoft and 30 seconds into preview froze image. Cycle power on unit and again good for about 30 seconds. In my case I had no audio AND the image was tinged yellow (B of RGB not functioning?). Double checked component connections - nothing...

First impression - what a lemon!

I called their tech support and the rep on phone was clueless. Keep in mind I only discussed the freezing issue, didn't even delve into yellow He had not heard of this issue (???). He couldn't even offer a beta/alpha driver site. Not having hard feelings yet since I knew early adoptions bears these risks - so long as they fix it or refund purchase.

Anyway, let me share my machine specs to see if there's a common thread here, they are:

3.6Ghz Quad / 8 Gigs / 150GB Raptor (10k RPM) / 8800GT 512MB / Vista 64-bit

Asked him about heating issues, which he had no knowledge of. Only thing he offered was that certain of PVR boards of theirs have problems with 4GB or higher 64-bit machines. He asked me to test on a 32-bit OS, which I will try soon.

I don't think the ArcSoft software will run on 64bit. The version purchased directly from ArcSoft I know for sure will not.

Thank you all for posting your experiences, it's only a matter of time before I get one of these so that I can finally enjoy HD with GB-PVR. Has anyone tried the IR blaster with any Time Warner equipment? I've never set up an IR blaster before, is this one pretty easy and does it interface well with GB-PVR?

Setup is pretty simple - install the software from the disk, run blastcfg, select your STB.

The executable you use in gbpvr is haupblast.exe.

However, function is another thing.

One problem I reported to Hauppauge is that if the unit has been inactive for a while, it does not blast the channel numbers fast enough & the channel does not change.

I think I'm going to try changing channels via firewire & see how that works out.

I strongly echo that sentiment (even though I have a PCH, the MVP is still my main extender for that reason alone, with kids it's essentail), but (I understand) it's Syabas that's not taking things further in this regard (also with resume).

Actually I've seen some of your posts and since Syabas never really provided anything useful anyway, its more a question of waiting (perhaps forever) for a solution. I've really given up hope for the time being. Resume they say they will provide but remember that won't be tied to GBPVR.

Really to keep this on topic, since the PCH plays the files that the HD PVR creates and the MVP doesn't I'm not sure the lack of com skip is even valid even assuming you have found a good simple com skip file for the HD PVR captures.

Finally had a chance to hook up the HD-PVR. I already have my STB connected to a 150 card via s-video so I just connected the component cables from the STB to the HD-PVR, plugged in the USB cable and installed the drivers off the CD. I edited the existing cable capture device in config, resetting it to the Analog HD device, and saved it. I figured that I already had the blaster & guide set up so why mess with it. I started a recording on History HD and sat back and watched, expecting it to fail. It recorded the entire show without a hitch. I watched it on my PCH and it looks good. It's merrily recording another show on PBS HD and I've set it up to record three or four more shows tonight...we'll see what happens. Stay tuned...

Can you try just flipping channels to see if it locks up? Also, do you have the blaster attached to the HD PVR?

OK, it's something that I had hoped for, but purchased the device knowing it might never happen in any case.

@ philly_phenom - sorry for the confusion, off-topic post. It was more about the PCH. The HD-PVR has me interested as the "front-end" if you like, to the PCH.
