nightwalker:

I was tinkering with this somemore. IRRemote.ini was fine. To make sure I backed up and repaired it. Same actions as before.

Now here is the interesting part. I accidentally exited to the main PVRX2 menu playing with the remote buttons while I had a few songs queued and was still trying to skip forward... guess what... it worked there. As a matter of fact they all worked there. Pause, Play, Skip Forward, Skip Backward and Stop all worked. In the plugin the only thing that works for me is Play, Skip Backward and Stop. Maybe this info will help someone when they look at the source code? I really think the problem lies in the dll now, since in the main PVRX2 menu (which I assume PVRX2 is taking over the control instead of the plugin) all the key mappings work like a charm.

You may be on to something there. This was written initially for pre-version 1.0. It could very well be that something changed in how plug-ins interact with the core, something minor enough to allow it to work, just not 100%.

WIKI: All of the above remote commands will, if you are on the Now Playing Screen, first take you back to the previous folder you were looking at or the root folder if you had just opened the plug-in.

Has anything changed with the remote commands?

EDIT: I am guessing not now that I see the date of the dll. Here is something I havent tried, will the remote work in built in screensaver?? Hmmm, ill have to check it out.

I just have received the source code and manual information to place it on the wiki. I don't know if anything has been updated or changed.

Edit:The plugin .dll file is dated from 2007. FYI

Edit II:Most of the text for the page was lifted off of the manual .pdf file.

Thanks for putting it up Fatman, hopfully it will be adopted. Wink

I can confirm that nothing has changed, it's just now publicly available. Dave (the author) sent me the source code and permissions to post it.

What it needs right now is a new caretaker. Smile

I suppose that if someone were to take it over and do a bit of work on it it could. It was designed initially strictly for MP3's.

Jukebox2 fans I installed J2, since I thought it might fit into what I was doing on MusicLibrary3 but I have to admit I don't see a lot of extra functionality. Is it the idea of the database that bad or am I missing something? Rather than going through the pain of a skin2 convertion how could I entice you to ML3?

Note that J2 supports mp3 and wma files.

The reason I use it is strictly for it's simplicity. I like a folder/directory based player as opposed to having to maintain and keep another database. I also like how it allow me to disallow folders from auto play. For example right now I have everything disallowed except Christmas music, you can still select others if you like but right now if you press play you get Christmas tunes. Nothing else to do but press play.

It's been a rare day that I have to instruct someone on how to use it and guests have come to love picking up a remote and playing a couple of their favorites, without me having the do it for them. Since it doesn't generate playlists and just picks random songs to play, if no one has chosen anything, when you do choose something it plays as soon as the currently playing song is over, as opposed to having to wait for a generated playlist to finish. A small thing granted but, huge when guests are over or you just heard a song that reminded you of another that you wanted to hear.

So many other music players try to do it all and that's where most get into trouble. I don't care about playlists, ripping CD's, making CD's, maintaining databases, tagging music, etc, etc. I have other programs that do all that. Personally if I never see another needy playlist I'll be thrilled. They have their place, I just prefer to go where the music takes me as opposed to where a pre-programmed playlist wants to go. Smile

I can't say I have tried ML3, I have tried ML2 and it was very nice, just not simple enough for guests and I always ended up spending more time showing various people how to to use it instead of enjoying the company.

Jukebox just plays music, pick something it plays, don't pick something it still plays. It's oh so based on the KISS principal. It just plays music, period, and that's it's charm.

The only thing from my perspective that it doesn't have is the ability to run on a touchscreen, it needs the remote.
