Hello,
I am new to gbpvr and came across it while trying to find a product to install on my whs ex495 that will simply record my tv shows.

I don't know much about gbpvr yet but what I am looking for is a web EPG that will allow me to setup a TV recording. Is there anything out there like this?

Also, i would need to have gbpvr setup on my whs machine. I am not going to use this machine to view the programs just record and then host them. Is this possible and how would one set that up?

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to GB-PVR! A look at the wiki might answer some of your questions and get you up to speed quickly.

GB-PVR does run under Windows Home Server but I think there are a few steps to follow and pre-reqs to install first (DirectX and WMP stuff I think). A forum search for WHS or Windows Home Server should be your first approach. Here's the pre-reqs for a standard Windows system:

Web Admin / Web Scheduling is built in to GB-PVR:

What would you be playing the shows on? A PC or another device? A network share and WMP on a PC would be the simplest.

Thanks for the reply. I will give the search a try again. I had done some searching prior to posting but it would always yield zero results. I don't know if that is because I wasn't yet a member or what. Now that I am, i will give it a try again.

Perfect that it has a web EPG by default.

We have a number of devices we use currently. a Linksys dsm-320 but this is going to shortly be retired, XBOX 360 and PS3. I would love to be able to host the shows on all of the devices without having to do any transcoding. I will take a peak at a few of your links here.

McBainUK thanks for the help. I got it working I think for the most part. I have one further question I think at this point until i get to play around with it more. The recordings are setup currently to record in a .ts format. Do you know of a format I can use to play on my xbox360, ps3 and linksys dsm320 by chance? I know this is probably asking for a miracle. I know there are tools like tversity that will transcode on the fly but this machine doesn't have enough pep to be doing that.

Thanks again.

I'm not familar with those clients.

I suggest you search the forums and wiki for batch or pre-transcoding options or perhaps look at using a MUX that creates .MPG files?
