Thats Windows system DLL protection mechanism getting in the way. Try booting in safe mode, then replacing the file.

That approach used to be good on older systems, when files were in use, but I thought this mechanism was not good enough to get around the DLL protected in XP? Could be wrong.

Ok, I must admit that I haven't tried for a long time.

I really had to dig my memory but I found it. I've used this one and it works very well.

OK, got 6.5.1.902 on there. Strange the DXDIAG utility still reports 9.0c.

Live video still out of sync, sort of choppy. Gonna keep workin' at it though.

I may have figured out my issue. I went into the Config app, Misc tab, set Deinterlacing to "None". It seems good so far. Think I am headed the right direction?

That setting only affects live tv on a analog cards, and effectively means you're getting the raw video out of the analog cards. 'encoder pass-through' is the recommended setting, since audio/video stays in better sync. Digital cards are always outputting MPEG2, so are effectively always in encoder passthrough mode.

Yea, it was a fluke. It's still there. Sad I am thinking maybe it's a setting in my Catalyst software, maybe the deinterlace in there needs to be set to something other than "auto-detect"?

Well after trawling the entire internet I think I found a fix for my dropped frames and stuttering live TV - it's pretty system specific, but it may be of help to someone...

It seems that a combination of the SiS AGP driver supplied with my motherboard (v1.13) and the Smartgart feature of the ATI catalyst control center was effectively disabling the fastwrite ability of the graphics card.

Solution: Remove all the ATI software, reboot, update the AGP driver from the Sis website (v1.21) rather than the motherboard manufacturers (ignoring Sis's advice against this!), reboot, reinstall the ATI driver ONLY (i.e. without the catalyst control centre / smartgart) by pointing the hardwear wizard to c:\ati\support\drivers rather than running the ATI installer (although I think you can deselect the catalyst control center in the advanced options of the installer too if you want).

I've only got 20min of TV tested, but it seems to be a dramatic improvement so far SmileSmileSmile
