I had problems connecting before, did you try changing to the older dongle.bin, bec the way I understand it there is more than one version of dongle.bin, i think sub went back to an earlier version. Also, have you tried installing Net 2.0, i experienced less connecting problems with the new Net framework.

Seeing as I wrote the stuff in that paragraph from http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FAQ/MVP#toc: based on my own trials and tribulations (and I still get occasional disconnects) I guess I had better try and offer some help too :-)

Often when it disconnects, I get the same "connecting forever" message as you. The only thing that works for me in this situation is to reboot the router. (I use WDS mode between two routers, so it is a little bit different). So my first suggestion is, try a router reboot?

I assume that apart from disabling all the Firewalls, you ALSO have disabled Norton Anitvirus WORM Scripting (which I also wrote about in the FAQ). The reason I ask is becuse very time I install a new update to GBPVR, I have to go into NAV Work Script page, remove the entries GBPVR.exe and GBPVRecordingService.exe and add them back manually. Theoretically NAV does this "automagically" and asks you (which it does), but saying "yes OK", did not work for me. It just kept asking and asking. This manual workaround works for me. So my second suggestion is check this too, if you have ANY worm script blocking software.

Good luck!

-McAfee firewall is shut down
-XP Firewall is shutdown as per tipstirs dos command
-Tried using TFTpd32 to assign an IP addy that was in a different series than what my router assigns. (is this right, my router assings in teh range of 192.168.0.xxx and I set up TFTpd32 to assign based on 10.0.0.xxx)
-Have rebooted my GBPVR machine
-Have restarted my router
-MVP software is stopped
-Tried goin into Config, setting servers to autostart to 0, disconnecting power from MVP, manually opening a MVP server, then powering up MVP
-My router has assigned an IP address to teh MVP and I can ping it with no probs
-MVP boots into teh MVPsoftware no prob if I enable it.

Okay, let's look at this logically - if you can run the Hauppauge MVP software okay, your problems are not with your network, router, firewall... I can't see why it is necessary to use TFTpd32 to assign an IP when your DHCP router will be doing this (you do have the MVP on the same subnet, don't you?)

If you are getting to "contacting servers" the dongle.bin has already been loaded to the MVP, probably from the Hauppauge software. Personally, I have never been able to 'boot' from gbpvr; whenever I have had to hard boot the MVP, I have had to stop the gbpvr service, start the Hauppauge services, power up the MVP, let it cycle through to the application, then turn itoff with the remote, disable the Hauppauge services, then start gbpvr (config MVP autostart).

In the light of all this, I agree with above - I'd try another dongle.bin (try the one on the Hauppauge disk?), go through the sequence above, and see what happens.

I tried to post my dongle here for you, but there was something screwy with the forum - wouldn't let me upload; but this has been discussed before so if you search topics you may turn another copy up.

Good luck!

I tried the Odogle from the CD, I also tried one from the most recent MVP software download. I can get it to boot into MVP but not GBPVR

Could you try zipping it and uploading or emailing to zachfreshman at comcast dot net. Thanks

Thanks but I'm getting close to giving up on the MVP. I'm gonna check out a spare computer I have sitting here and try to get it running and maybe just put it next to my TV. Bums me out cause the MVP seems pretty darn slick. If I go that route I'll offer my MVP (which I'm sure works fine cause it boots into MVP software no problem) here for what I paid at RS plus shipping first

tipstir Wrote:Click on start
click on run
type: cmd
then type: ipconfig /flushdns

then type: ipconfig /all

next

Go into your PC running GBPVR as a service

click on connections or connect to and show connections

Right click on NIC and then on properties

do you see all those arrows
uncheck them all then hit okay

Now go back and check them all again.

Reboot the PC and try it again...
Could you please explain what this is to accomplish? All it seems to be doing is killing my network connections to the GBPVR computer. Why am I doing this?

tipstir Wrote:If the problem doesn't go away then something is not working right. You might have to blow out the HDD and re-install OS, .NET and GBPVR only. Then see if you can connect to the MVP.

This isn't an option. The whole point of using the MVP (for me) is that I can use my existing every-day PC.

I followed your advice and now when I power up the MVP it is stuck at "Contacting MediaMVP bootserver"

So as it sits now, my GBPVR computer is sitting downstairs with GBPVR MVP server running, but it seems to me that all the network connections to it have been disabled. is this correct?

More I think about it I agree with your advice on the seperate PVR. If I can't get this figured out I'll try setting one up with an old box I have I still using the MVP. I prefer to keep the box downstairs where I don't have to worry about fan noise and stuff.

Thanks everyone for all teh help

Here's something that's worth a go:

In GBPVR config set MVPs to Autostart to 0
Start both Hauppauge MVP services.
Power cycle your MVP

Assuming that the MVP boots up into the Hauppauge software:
Stop both Hauppauge MVP services.
Do not touch (turn off) the MVP.
From the GBPVR Start Menu group, start MVP server

Any joy?

It could be your router. On my Netgear WGR614v4, I have no problems with the latest firmware. But with my D-Link DI-524 Rev. C, I have to use the 3.02 firmware. The latest firmware (3.20) causes a disconnect after two minutes from the GBPVR server. I suppose a similar problem could prevent connecting at all (or connect only intermittently). Wireless routers are famous for such problems as I have found out. Try turning off the wireless portion of the router, and update the firmware.

One comment on this guys.. I'm working through issues with my own MVP and SUB's indictated to me that the Haupp software and GBpvr use different ports. So network issue can apparently still be suspect even if your MVP works through Haupp software. (I'm installing a second dumber switch on my network to see if that allows the traffic throuogh from GBpvr to the MVP.)
