You need to edit config.xml and depending on whether you're using ffmpeg or mencoder, it's either -b <bitrate> or bitrate=<bitrate> The documenation for both mencoder and ffmpeg is available on the web if you google for it and all the parameters are described. ehh this is an ancient thread however got to ask what do I do to this line so I can use memcoder (renamed as ffmpeg) with the xvid codec I don't wantto resize the video 720x480 is fine by me all I want to do is use a like 1400 bit rate
here's the line in the config.xml <Conversion name="XviD" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -f avi -ab 224 -ac 2 -acodec mp3 -vcodec mpeg4 -b 900 -vtag XVID {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".avi" />

I have the same issue using video library and manually transcoding to xvid or divx (only ones Ive tried!) the size of the output file is proportional to the input file. but WMP always shows the total play length of the transcoded file as 1:27:54
All i have seen in the thread so far is workarounds that typicall reduce the quality of the output file. has no-one any idea of why this is happening and a solution that does not impair the quality of the output?

I have just transcoded a movie using the WMV 1200 option in video library and that trancoded the 1 hr 31 minute movie just fine. I will try with a 2hr 10 minute recording next.
There was a problem with ffmpeg and a 1hr 27min limit. I think it was fixed in a newer version, not sure though.

Does anyone have a win32 binary of ffmpeg that is mor recent than 2004, latest binary I came across on the net. I am just about capable of compiling on linux but windows... phew looks like it a pain in the butt.

The ffmpeg that comes with GBPVR is a lot newer I think. Mine is dd 15-02-06. Otherwise look on www.videohelp.com.

Just FYI, I've been seeing all these threads talking about the 1h27min avi issue and I couldn't figure out why I didn't have the problem myself.
I've been watching all the transcoded AVIs in Videolan (VLC), which reads the entire full-length just fine. So, at the very least, that is an option.
