Quote:Sub, does that also mean that FFMpeg resizes the video to 352*240 before converting if to mpeg2? Sorry if that sounds silly, I'm really new with ffmpeg
Yes. I made the default bitrate and resolution low so that it would work for most users. If you've got a grunty machine, you're welcome to increase the bitrate and resolution.

Sub, is there a way to see if FFMpeg is running?
I tried with the swicth on and off for the MVP transcode, and I don't see FFMPeg.exe in the process list, so I'm not sure it's being run. I tried both with the 0.95.16 stock FFMpeg and the one I grabbed from videohelp.com

Also, I tried to add that in the config.xml, in the hopes of getting a .log file of FFMpeg output, but I get nothing. no idea if it's because FFMpeg isn't running or because the syntax is wrong

Code:
<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 3000 -v -vcodec mpeg2video "{DEST_FILE}" >"{DEST_FILE}.log"</MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL>
  <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 3000 -v -vcodec mpeg2video "{DEST_FILE}" >"{DEST_FILE}.log"</MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>

It will add a log message in gbpvr.exe.log stating the command line it used to execute ffmpeg.

OK I'm attaching the log below
It seems that the config says to use FFMpeg:
Code:
12/11/05 6:45:23 PM.859    VERBOSE    [96]    getValue() loading new key/value into cache: /settings/MVPTranscodeUsingFFmpeg
12/11/05 6:45:23 PM.859 VERBOSE [96] getValue: /settings/MVPTranscodeUsingFFmpeg : true
but then I don't see any other reference to it after that...

EDIT: I'm trying to play an AVS file, btw
I always noticed the following in Trans2MVP.log when I play AVS, although it always worked fine so far
Code:
18:45:26.062 VERBOSE Connecting Avisynth video #1 to encoder's Input Video
18:45:26.062 VERBOSE ConnectPins: 'Avisynth video #1' to 'Input Video'
18:45:26.078 VERBOSE ConnectPins failed!
18:45:26.078 VERBOSE Connecting Avisynth audio #1 to encoder's Input Audio
18:45:26.078 VERBOSE ConnectPins: 'Avisynth audio #1' to 'Input Audio'
18:45:26.078 VERBOSE ConnectPins failed!

ffmpeg is only used for .avi files. Other file types will just use GBPVRConvert.exe.

In your case you were playing an .avs file, so it uses GBPVRConvert.

It uses GBPVRConvert.exe to transcode to the MVP? Is it called by Trans2MVP.exe?

Howdy

A quick question - I've read the other posts in the forum about how to play a DVD on the MVP using the XDVD and I've got that working but... according to the documentation FFMpeg is capable of taking a ripped DVD .vob file as an input. Has anyone tried using this as a way to play DVDs on the MVP ?

Just thought I'd ask !

No, it wont work. GB-PVR will only try to use ffmpeg on .avi files.
