Ah! The ongoing issues with the MVP and wireless. I also found it very frustrating getting it to work. And we all seem to have this determination to get it to work, no matter the cost and time involved (as the vendor says it should work... must be something we aren't doing right). Might I suggest:

[AP #1] + [AP #2] ---> ebay
and replace them with 2 Homeplug 85Mbps devices.

I ditched my MVP related wireless stuff and got two of these Homeplug devices, and am now one happy camper! And I can use my microwave and 2.4Gig phone. Your mileage may vary...
Regards,
Hasso

MVP #2 is getting an IP assigned to it but still isn't finding the MVP Boot Server. Sigh.

Homeplug devices were quite a bit more expensive than the deals I got on these APs, but if this persists I just may...

I tried shutting down GBPVR and starting the two MVP services to see if their DHCP server would make a difference. No difference.

No reason why it should as far as I can see. If the device has an IP address then it has gone past DHCP. If you stick a computer in place of the MVP and see what you can connect to? In other words do you have a working network connection? Have you got any firewall rules in place that would prevent a connection?

Yes, that's exactly what a wireless bridge is. Although essentially this is what you have now, the only difference is that in bridge mode, the devices will only talk to each other whereas with one of them in AP mode (infrastructure mode), you have the ability to use a laptop wirelessly around the house too or any other wireless device for that matter.

It is worth trying though just to see if there's any change in behaviour.

A laptop substituted in place of MVP #2 can see the network, pull up websites, and reach out and access the HTPC.

I'm rather at a loss. Other than the wireless MVP failing to get past the "Connecting to Boot Server" message after acquiring an IP, my network is working great! Heh.

I'm wondering now if I should set the MVP #2 AP in bridge mode with the HTPC AP's MAC address and leave the HTPC AP in client mode. I guess I could try both ways.

Is there a GBPVR log file that might shed some insight into whether GBPVR is receiving traffic from the MVP? I turned logging up to "Info".

Zip and attach your gbpvr.exe.log and I'll take a look. Set the logging level to 'debug' first to ensure we get as much info as possible.
