It's happened to me twice while watching a recorded program with the new version. Can't say I've seen the problem with previous versions.
Just sat back watching, doing nothing else. Wired MVP. I thought at first the recording had ended early, but the 'searching for servers' gave it away.
I played the recording again and skipped to a minute before where it had stopped and it played through fine to the end.

sub Wrote:To help me find the problem, when it reboots or disconnects, were you doing anything at the time. i.e. were you siting back on the couch not touching the remote, or had you just tried to skip? or fastforward?
Ack! I was reading a magazine both times. I knew reading was bad...!

But seriously, I'm pretty sure the remote was sitting on top of the TV while the kids were watching. Nobody was at the computer either.

I should mention that I replaced my old damaged network cable last week with a new one, but if other people are having the same problem it seems like unlikely contributor.

Add me to the group that has experienced random reboots with the MVP. Me and my wife were watching a show, then *poof* -- back to the blue screen.

Sub, if there are any specific tests you’d like to try I’m willing to donate a day to the cause. But I think there are several intermittent problems everyone is going to have eventually, because they happen on both of my computers.

First, congratulations on v2.0! Smile
Second, this isn’t a big deal because I can always go back to v95.16, but I will miss the menu speed, taking the load off of zap2It and deleting files in the library! And I see the new Advanced WebAdmin (with genre) requires v96.12.

I installed a new hard drive in my laptop yesterday, and a ghost image I’d made just after installing XP-Home with all the M$ updates. AboutTime, Norton Ghost, Free VNC, DynDNS updater & MaxMem were installed, then I loaded v96.12 with no plugins.

1. MPV reboots intermittently, playing files from any location including Recordings.
2. Commercial auto-skip sometimes doesn’t. It plays through the skip locations shown on the timeline quite frequently.
3. The config utility fails to detect my PVR USB2 (connected to a USB 1 port), and will not save a capture source if programs (that worked with 95.16) are in memory.
4. Network library paths added in 95.16 config work, 96.12 needed to be changed in config.xml

V96.12 config would save (but not display when re-opened) a capture source, until DynDNS and MaxMem were unloaded from memory. Then it showed three of them....

I mention this because I noticed a thread where others were having problems with the config program when a specific plugin was installed on their system.
It’s almost like the new version is straying outside its memory space and conflicting with other programs, or there’s a 1980’s style M$ timing issue.
v95.16 was (and still is) rock solid on this os image and computer.
Hope this helps.

I am having this problem as well, though not frequently enough to really bother me. In fact, I have experienced the following strange behaviors:

1) I had initially installed v96.12 as an upgrade to v94.10(?). When I did this, commercial skip wouldn't work unless I stopped and restarted the video at least once, but I didn't notice any rebooting (maybe it was luck).

2) Shortly after I installed 96.12 on a clean reinstall of Windows (I also grabbed the latest comskip and .NET 1.1 SP1, so these may have made some difference). I now get reliable comskips, but I have seen the random reboot at least 3-4 times in as many days.

Perhaps some default setting changed enough from 94.10 to 96.12 to cause this?

Not sure if this helps at all,

Confirmed here too. It has happened to me during Net Radio or playing a recording. This has occurred both while a show was recording in the background and while GBPVR was otherwise idle. No input on the remote was occurring.

Note to those of you experiencing this problem - Be as detailed as possible with your reports so when sub finally finds the time to look at it (remember, version 2.0 just joined us Big Grin) we want him to have as much info as possible.

I’ve disabled GBPVRTray.exe in startup, and replaced it with the version from 95.16.

It’s way too early to know for sure, but everything’s worked fine playing a few recordings, after rebooting to completely flush the v96.12 tray out of memory.
Someone else want to try this to see if it helps?

I had a few reconnect-screens too. I think I will disable GBPVRTray.exe completely, I almost never use it. Let's see what happens.

Tipstir,

I've had very few reboots since increasing the delay. Most of the reboots were with video. TV was not as big of a problem. Sometimes it would start with a stutter, freeze then crash.

Still doesn't stop the microwave from crashing it though!

Unfortunately disabling the tray didn’t make a long-term difference on my system.
The mpv rebooted again before anything new was recorded, and the auto-skip isn’t working after a few pending shows recorded in my absence.
I’ll keep looking..
